Feds Working Without Pay are 'Volunteering' Out of Love For President Trump, Kudlow Says

Out of Touch?

Published 59 mins ago on January 24, 2019

By Andrew Feinberg

WASHINGTON, January 24, 2019 — The roughly half a million federal employees who’ve been working without a paycheck since December are doing so out of their presumed “allegiance to President Trump,” National Economic Council Chairman Larry Kudlow said Thursday.

Speaking to reporters in the White House briefing room, Kudlow was addressing remarks made Friday by Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, in which the multi-millionaire suggested that furloughed federal workers who haven’t been paid for a month could take out loans instead of going to food banks to feed their families.

Asked whether Ross’ remarks indicated that the Trump administration is out of touch with everyday American’s needs, Kudlow replied: “Am I out of touch? I don’t think I’m out of touch, I’m addressing the problem. I’ve met with my individual staff members, and God bless ‘em, they’re working for free, they’re volunteering. But they do it because they believe government service is honorable and they believe in President Trump and they’re working as hard as ever.”................

In a statement to BeltwayBreakfast, Senator Mark Warner, D-Va., suggested Kudlow and his colleagues in the Trump administration would benefit from meeting with some of the workers who’ve been deprived of paychecks for the past 34 days.

“If Mr. Kudlow, Mr. Ross or literally anyone in this Administration would actually meet with federal workers and listen to their stories, they’d know how insulting these kinds of comments are,” Warner said.

I would love for all of trumps aids and cabinet members to stand in the food lines and actually talk with the UNpaid "volunteer' Fed workers and their families.

Hat tip, Joe.My.God:

Kudlow: Federal workers impacted by shutdown are ‘volunteering’ in part due to ‘allegiance’ to Trump
BY JUSTIN WISE - 01/24/19 04:01 PM EST

President Trump's top economic advisor on Thursday said federal employees were "volunteering" to work amid the partial government shutdown in part because of their "allegiance to President Trump."

"They honor us and they do it because of their love for their country and the office of the presidency and presumably their allegiance to President Trump," National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow said while speaking to reporters at the White House briefing room. "They’re doing it. Give them some credit. There are a lot of wonderful people in this country."

Q: "That's not volunteering if you're being forced to work without pay. If you don't show up you lose your job. That's not volunteering…"

Larry Kudlow: "I'm not even going to go there. You know what I'm saying. It's very clear..."

Talking Points Memo reported that Kudlow made the statement after previously praising federal workers for "working for free" during the shutdown. At least 800,000 federal workers — plus contractors — are either furloughed or working for free.

"They’re volunteering," Kudlow reportedly said. "But they do it because they believe government service is honorable and they believe in Trump and they’re working as hard as ever.” ... A reporter replied by questioning Kudlow's take on volunteering, saying that it's "not volunteering if you're being forced to work without pay." ... Kudlow responded by accusing the journalist of trying to play a "semantic game."

Also, how can these people be so stupid as to think these sorts of statements don't make them look like total assholes without a clue? I guess it doesn't matter since the Trump cultists will agree with anything they say or do.

There are only 800,000 workers furloughed.
500,000 of 800,000 are working without pay.
Can you prove it?

The number of people affected by this immoral shutdown is vastly greater than the 800,000 figure they keep kicking around. It is also every family member of those impacted, all of the people with whom they normally conduct commerce, all of the networks that support these people too.

You don't reveal what you do (and that's ok), but I do wish that all FAA employees (Air Traffic Controllers) would walk off the job right now. That would bring this country to its knees in a New York minute. Air safety is NOT negotiable and right now, controllers are working ten-hours a day, six days a week to make up for the shortages. This is a situation ripe for catastrophe.

Take care.

It's clear that even some in his base are starting to see he's not a man to love.

Most of us on this board saw him early on for the blathering con man he's since proved himself to be. What I still don't get is that the entire Republican party hasn't realized their 2016 primaries were also rigged in favor of this asshole. They don't seem to care THEY were also sold a bill of goods and they can't bring themselves to admit their mistake. Lemmings jumping off a cliff and dragging the innocent down with them maliciously.
