Howard Schultz's Own Polling Finds His Campaign Would Reelect Trump

Source: nymag.com

4:07 P.M. By Jonathan Chait

Howard Schultz’s presidential campaign opened up to mixed reviews — within the prized demographic of socially liberal, fiscally moderate billionaire moguls. (Michael Bloomberg expressed disapproval, while Schultz himself expresses strong enthusiasm.) Every other demographic category has registered a catastrophically negative response. Change Research found Schultz’s favorable rating among the public is 4 percent, with 40 percent viewing him unfavorably, and the rest not knowing who this person is.

The poll even tested prompting respondents with favorable descriptions of Schultz — “Howard Schultz is a true American success story … He believes that the system is broken and there are extremists on both sides, and only an independent centrist can solve the problems that Republicans and Democrats refuse to fix.” — which nonetheless failed to coax more than 9 percent of the public to express support for Schultz’s campaign against any opponent. The polling still found that Schultz’s dismal percentage of support was nonetheless enough to swing the election to Donald Trump against most possible Democratic opponents. So it is simultaneously true that almost nobody likes Schultz and that he could pull enough votes to reelect Trump.

Perhaps in an effort to push back against this data, Schultz’s team released very partial internal polling data. Somewhat suspiciously, the data did not show what information the respondents were given about Schultz, to possibly prompt them to support him. The bottom-line figures showed Schultz drawing a whopping 17 percent of the national vote in a three-way race with Trump and either Kamala Harris or Elizabeth Warren. The same figures showed Trump beating both Democrats 33 to 32 percent.

In other words, Schultz’s own polling indicates he would lose badly, and would throw the race to Trump. The independent polling is even worse than that.

Partisan Republicans have supplied one of the few sources of support for Schultz’s candidacy......................................................

Every vote for Schultz would be a vote for Trump. That I believe!

why is it that rich people think that being rich qualifies them to be president? Wouldn't current circumstances indicate that the concept is a complete disaster? Give me a strong dem, all day.

4. Howard is suffering from BMS

It is a common malady and affects many of them very rich people.
BMS stands for Billionaire's Money Syndrome.

When you have over $1000 Million in assets (= $1 Billion), you can have everything you want.
The only thing missing is name recognition from the whole country. That is why Trump ran in 2016.
He is now more famous worldwide. He has broken bread with Kim Jong Un, Vladimir Putin, Queen of England, King of Saudi, and heads of states from all important countries. He could not do that before no matter how many Mar-a-Lago's he owned.

Now Howard Schultz pines for similar life. And so does the short Billionaire from NY.

At least Bloomberg has experience in governing. Regardless of how you think he performed as mayor of NYC, he would still be a far better president than trump, schultz, or any of the other bored under-taxed parasites on society.

...while the internal poll was showing 17% for Schultz, the NON-internal poll was showing him drawing 7%...and, in every matchup except Biden, turning the race from a Democratic victory into a Trump re-election.

Schultz if he doesn't run to do just that .....

That's probably why the wall is so important to him - to solidify his base in a three person race

hunting at running just to sell books and get attention. His apparent surprise at the negative reaction he is getting suggests that his outsized ego assured him he would get lots of glowing press and sell lots of books to admiring audiences.

I wonder. It COULD just be a bid to keep the country fiscally conservative and preserve the 0.1%'s money. Or just pure ego (hey, if stupid Trump could do it, I should be a cinch!)

First and most importantly, I think trump will resign or be indicted and impeached long before 2020. Pence as well.

Second, even if he somehow makes it to 2020, Senator Harris, for example, is his superior in every way, and there is absolutely no way to squeak out victories in MI or PA again to save him.

So Schultz or not, I have little doubt of a Democratic EC and popular vote landslide.

The pendulum has swung waaaaaay to far to the right and to say govt has become completely unhinged is putting it mildly.
People are going to want to stabilize things again and get our domestic and foreign policy back to normal.
Giving Dems control of the Senate and House and WH will go a long way to getting things back to normal.
