Republican campaign paid for 'coordinated, unlawful' absentee ballot scheme in NC 9th District elect

Source: WTVD ABC 11

North Carolina State Board of Elections investigators presented evidence Monday to the State Board of Elections, showing that the company Republican Mark Harris hired to help with his political campaign ultimately paid McCrae Dowless to illegally collect absentee ballots in a "coordinated" and "unlawful" scheme in Bladen and Robeson counties.

Update, as this is a bigger part of the same story.

Earlier I posted this.

[div class"excerpt"]Dowless Instructed Workers To Fill Out Absentee Ballots With GOP Candidates
Source: TPM

Lisa Britt, a worker for political operative McCrae Dowless, said during the North Carolina board of elections hearing Monday that Dowless instructed his employees to fill out illegally collected absentee ballots with votes for the Republican candidates.

The hearing is to investigate alleged election fraud in North Carolina's 9th district.

Britt said that most of the ballots had the congressional race and sheriff's race filled out, as those were the major elections that topped the ballots. She said that Dowless' cohort would fill in the empty votes for more minor, down-ballot races.

"Basically what we would do -- what I would do -- is to submit the vote for whoever was the Republican," Britt testified.

Dowless had tried to get Britt to plead the Fifth.

Once again we see repubs clinging to power by desperate, illegal means. They know they're doomed and will try any underhanded trick under the sun to postpone their inevitable fall.

6. North Carolina Election Board Finds Evidence Of Significant Fraud To Help GOP Candidate

The executive director of the North Carolina State Board of Elections revealed Monday that state officials had uncovered a “coordinated” and “unlawful” effort to collect absentee ballots on behalf of a Republican congressional candidate in the November election.

Kim Strach, the board’s executive director, made the comments at a closely watched public evidentiary hearing in Raleigh on Monday following a monthslong investigation into election irregularities in the state’s 9th Congressional District. The state board declined to certify the race last November and could order a new election after the hearing. Republican Mark Harris currently leads Democrat Dan McCready by 905 votes in the race.

In the first public comments outlining the results of the state’s probe, Strach said investigators had evidence that McCrae Dowless, a political operative working on behalf of the Harris campaign, filled out and mailed in incomplete or blank ballots from both his office and home. She said Dowless paid people in cash to collect requests for absentee ballots and the ballots themselves. The state board also has evidence, she said, that Dowless paid people to falsify signatures on absentee ballots indicating that they had witnessed those ballots being filled out (North Carolina requires two witnesses to someone filling out an absentee ballot).

It is not illegal to help someone request an absentee ballot in North Carolina, but it is illegal for anyone other than a close relative to take custody of the actual ballot.

the 2018 Georgia gubernatorial results. And the 2016 Wisconsin presidential results. And the 2004 Ohio presidential results. And the 2000 Florida presidential results. At some point, as evidence of Republican tampering is laid out, doubts like mine are no longer conspiracy-mongering. By not questioning, not demanding investigations, being polite and silent, we betray democracy. Our opposition is comprised of criminals.

And no, it's not prison; I am certain the GOP can find some flunky to take the fall and accept $50k/year to sit in prison to protect the real malefactors.

The way to solve this problem is to remove ALL the Republicans from office in the state of North Carolina for the next five election cycles.
