Venezuela's oil exports drop 40 percent after U.S. sanctions - data
Source: Reuters
Venezuelas oil exports sank 40 percent in the first full month after the beginning of U.S. sanctions designed to oust Socialist President Nicolas Maduro, according to data from state-run oil firm PDVSA and Refinitiv Eikon.
On Jan. 28, President Donald Trumps administration barred U.S. customers from paying for Venezuelan oil until a new government being formed by the nations congress head Juan Guaido could be established to accept the proceeds.
Venezuelas exports since then have dropped to 920,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude and fuel, the data shows. That is down from between 1.47 million and 1.66 million bpd of crude and fuel in the prior three months, the data show.
Almost 70 percent of Venezuelas oil shipments since Jan. 28 have gone to PDVSAs clients in Asia, with India rising to first place among top destinations, followed by Singapore and China. Singapore is a hub for storage, trans-shipment and re-exports.

Venezuela health minister fired over mortality stats
Venezuela has sacked Health Minister Antonieta Caporale after her department released statistics revealing a large jump in infant and maternal mortality.
Vice-Minister of Hospitals Luis López has been appointed to take over, according to state media.
The ministry's report showed the number of women dying in childbirth had risen by 65%, while child deaths were up 30%.
The national figures were released after almost two years without official data.
They also showed a jump in illnesses such as malaria and diphtheria.

She's lucky she wasn't tossed in jail, though I'd not be surprised that her family was visited by SEBIN agents.
