Jerry Lee Lewis suffers stroke

Source: USA Today

Jerry Lee Lewis, 83, suffered a minor stroke Thursday night, according to a statement from his representative Zach Farnum.

"He is with his family, recuperating in Memphis and the doctors expect a full recovery," the statement read. "The Killer looks forward to getting back into the studio soon to record a gospel record and on the road performing live for his fans. His family requests privacy at this time. Well wishes and prayers are greatly appreciated."

In a call with The Tennessean, Farnum added that Lewis wasn't canceling any shows and that there is currently no reason to believe his next concert at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in May wouldn't continue as scheduled.

"He's a devout Christian," Farnum said of Lewis. "We're just asking for prayers and support and privacy."

Well, if that's the case, I don't want to hear any Christians lecture anyone else about marriage ever again.

His nose was bandaged and covered with a metal beak because someone had punched him in the bazoo.

He was an obnoxious asshole on stage, so I could understand why his nose was broken.

I had a "minor stroke", completely recovered, but I referred to it as a minor stroke in front of my doctor once and he scowled at me and said "There's no such thing as a minor stoke"

It's minor but the deal is if you've had one the likelihood of another larger stroke has increased.

I mean a stroke (and 5 days in Intensive Care) as I said. I haven't see any reporting that this is what Jerry Lee Lewis had either.

It seemed that when he appeared he really did startle people in general, as he was a complete original.

I wasn't so much surprised by the 'stroke' part, but the part that surprised me was that he was still actually alive, and only 83 years old.

If I'd had to bet on it, I would have pegged him at 100, and that he'd been dead for twenty years. Obviously, I'd have been wrong.

In my opinion, he's one of those people that brought a lot of bad, and a lot of good. And, it's a challenge to me, to wrap my mind around both of those things. He made damn good music, but did some damn, bad stuff.

I saw him on one of Letterman's last shows, and Paul Schaeffer said he was 88, I believe. Someone is probably lying about his age. Maybe they're afraid that people will start to cancel shows if they hear he's 90 and just had a stroke.
