Republicans pound abortion 'infanticide' message

Source: Politico

Democrats say the GOP arguments are inflammatory and inaccurate, but Republicans are already seizing on the issue in their 2020 strategy.

By ALICE MIRANDA OLLSTEIN 03/02/2019 06:46 AM EST

Republicans’ amped-up focus on so-called late term abortions has brought new energy to the issue for their conservative base — forcing Democrats to respond to rhetoric about infanticide.

The GOP plans to keep at the message through the 2020 election, even if they lose the battle in Congress to pass a “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors” bill, H.R. 962, that abortion-rights advocates warn could add new pain to already wrenching medical decisions. Under criticism, Republicans' language has only continued to escalate, including President Donald Trump’s charge this week that Democrats “don’t mind executing babies AFTER birth.”

Democrats are “taking a barbaric position,” said Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), the No. 2 Republican in the House. “It's a radical far-left shift they’ve taken and, frankly, most Americans are sickened by that.”

So far the tactics aren’t swaying Democrats, who are highly unified around abortion rights and accuse the GOP of spreading inflammatory misinformation. To redirect the conversation, they hope to focus on aspects of women’s health where they are on more solid ground — for instance by, attacking the Trump administration’s recent move to cut funding for Planned Parenthood, congressional aides said.

Some of my family fell for it this week, and not all of them are Trump fans.
They fell for the news about that fake bill stunt the GOP recently pulled. I was able to point out that the "baby killers" was BS. But millions are falling for it. The GOP Lie Machine is in high gear and it's winning over gullible people on this one, I'm afraid.

And they are sort of allowing the medical community to get off scot free in terms of explaining themselves.

It is way over due that the medical community stand up to these blatant lies. But they do not, they allow the democrats to do the heavy lifting and they just stay quiet.

If anything I am really tired of them not speaking forcefully up.

Abortion on its own won’t erode women’s support of these GOP fartmonglers, but the explicitly anti-woman language (“host bodies,” anyone?), combined with the escalating rabidity their incel base demands, just might.

That would be a very powerful argument against this bullshit. It would take money and organization.

Letters to editors could reach some.

Leafleting cars parked at church services could help if it’s done carefully and persuasively.

Other ways to fight this?

We can’t let them define us with this.

feels like this:

A group of people standing on the street corner wait for a bus.

A meteorologist, a Democrat, notes the unusually bright sun and says, "Nice day, isn't it?"

A Republican peeks up from his Bible, looks at the same sun and screams, "Oh, my god!! That Dumbocrat wants us all to die standing here waiting for that giant fireball to fall on us! Run!"

Everyone runs.

The Democrat is then left to herself trying to explain the various meteorological influences that make the sun brighter on some days and at some times of the year than others.

But all anybody heard was "That Dumbocrat wants us all to die."

Socialism is scary, infanticide, and Trump's Stupid Wall (TSW).

Dems have the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and the For the People Act, which will restore integrity to elections and public life generally.

If we can't sell the difference between those two platforms, then we don't deserve to be in power.

the tried and true anti-abortion message to stir up the voters. They know they're in trouble in 2020 so making Democrats into baby killers is the best way for them to fix that. It's been a hot topic on Facebook since New York state updated its laws.

that women pop up from the table and scream at the ObGyn to abort with the fetus halfway out already. Then they'd have you believe that they turn up some music, pull out the meat cleavers and have a baby chopping party. These people (for lack of a better word) are fucking sick! They need to smacked down somehow, some way, once and for all. They are a detriment to society and humanity. And the idiotic base are easily led to believe that preventing a woman from terminating a pregnancy (hers and only hers) will magically put more food on their table and more money into their bank account. Worthless fucking fools, the lot of them!

But completely devoid of facts or anything remotely resembling reality, it will only rile up the already riled up religo-nut base. Fuck them. They're unreachable anyway, so I could care less what that rabble of morons believes. They can take their fake aborted fetus models, and bloody signs and shove them up their tight, prudish asses. The sooner we grind their ilk to dust, the better.

Republicans are in favor of killing living babies and have done so.

Pro-life is a myth.

The supposed pro-lifers cared naught when the state of Texas (republican gov, republican Prez) deliberately killed living baby Sun Hudson against the mother's wishes because he was an inconvenience to the state.

It is not a matter of life to the supposed pro-lifers.

It is a matter of control.

Infanticide has been approved and accomplished by republicans.
