Trump threatens to block networks from hosting debates after Dems reject Fox
Source: The Hill
President Trump on Wednesday responded to the Democratic National Committee refusing to let Fox News host a Democratic primary debate by threatening to do the same thing with other networks during the general election.
Democrats just blocked @FoxNews from holding a debate. Good, then I think Ill do the same thing with the Fake News Networks and the Radical Left Democrats in the General Election debates! Trump tweeted Wednesday.
The president would alone would not have the power to prevent outlets from hosting a general election debate.
The Democratic and Republican National Committees work with media outlets on arrangements for hosting their respective primary debates. The Commission on Presidential Debates, which the DNC and RNC jointly sponsor, sets up the general election debates.

(12,586 posts)Not to mention that he has absolutely no power to block a network from televising the debates. Little Lord Flauntmyass really doesn't get the idea that he's not a dictator, like his bromancers Kim and Putin.

(36,823 posts)Freedom of the press may be guaranteed in the Constitution. But a plurality of Republicans want to give President Trump the authority to close down certain news outlets, according to a new public opinion survey conducted by Ipsos and provided exclusively to The Daily Beast.
So that 43% of republicans would approve a democrat shutting down Fox news?

But.....that would result in end of debates, if no networks are covering them.
Like most things, tis another ill considered example of Trump blathering.

(14,972 posts)I say let him have this melt-down, poke at him to make it worsen and persist, and then cite his statements as the reason for not having a debate. If you can make sure the blame sticks to him, it might be worth it to let him have his pouting, one-person boycott.
Why would anyone want to appear on the same stage as this pervert? As HRC found out, no matter how much you out-class him in the debate, the very fact of appearing alongside him normalizes and legitimizes him by putting him next to a rational, respectable person in a situation of alleged equality, and gives lazy pundits opportunities to raise false equivalencies and enough fodder to wax lyrically about how presidential he appeared. Screw it.
