House to vote Thursday on measure 'opposing hate,' Hoyer tells Democrats

The House will vote Thursday on a measure “opposing hate,” Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer told Democrats Thursday morning, as the party tries to move past a controversy over alleged anti-Semitic comments from freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar.

The announcement, confirmed by two Democratic aides present in the closed-door meeting, reflects party leaders’ concerns that the acrimonious issue is overshadowing the Democratic legislative agenda, including the expected passage Friday of a sweeping election and ethics reform bill.

The resolution’s text, subject of intense Democratic infighting this week, will be released later Thursday, Hoyer (D-Md.) said, according to the aides present, who were granted anonymity to speak freely. It will not mention Omar (D-Minn.) by name and will condemn “prejudice” and “hate against whomever that is directed,” according to the aides.

Asked going into the closed-door meeting of House Democrats if there would be a vote this week responding to Omar, Hoyer said, “What I expect to be doing is passing a very significant reform bill with overwhelming Democratic support, perhaps unanimous.”

a controversy planned & executed by republicans & their allies. Repugs will seek out any weakness & use it to their advantage, in this case, causing Dems to go after Dems, even in a subtle way.

and only a bend of the knee to both republicans and AIPAC. When will the democratic party learn to stop shooting itself in the foot?
This is a bunch of hogwash. The enemy is in the White House, not Rep Omar. Focus democrats FOCUS!

one. But ... it happens from time to time. Overall: as a party we are getting tougher and smarter when it comes to the realities of dealing with a totally untrustworthy GOP; and Pelosi's doing a great -- if not perfect -- job. We just need to wise up a bit more. We can do this by being faithful to our values rather than those who influence us with relatively large sums of money.
