Trump issues warning to opponents: 'It would be very bad' if his military, police and biker supporters got 'tough'
By Daniel Dale Washington Bureau Chief
Thu., March 14, 2019
WASHINGTON--U.S. President Donald Trump has issued what seems to be a warning of armed pushback against his political opponents, telling a right-wing website on Monday that "it would be very bad, very bad" if his supporters in the military, police and a motorcycle group were provoked into getting "tough."
Trump uttered the remark in an interview with Breitbart News, a right-wing website that supports him. It came, according to Breitbart, as Trump was arguing that "the left" plays politics in a "tougher" and more "vicious" manner than the pro-Trump right even though "the tough people" are on Trump's side. (1)
"I have the support of the police, the support of the military, the support of the Bikers for Trump -- I have the tough people, but they don't play it tough -- until they go to a certain point, and then it would be very bad, very bad," Trump said. ... Trump did not specify who "they" were. Breitbart did not emphasize the quote, which it published in an article headlined "Exclusive -- President Donald Trump: Paul Ryan Blocked Subpoenas of Democrats."
The quote prompted criticism and alarm when the Star tweeted it. ... "This is how an authoritarian talks. Happening right in front of us," Brendan Nyhan, a University of Michigan public policy professor who co-founded an initiative monitoring the state of U.S. democracy, said on Twitter.

I generally do not consider Trump's tweets and comments worthy of attention in LBN. I'll make an exception for this.

(8,200 posts)Cohen testified that he feared that Trump could call for a revolution of his supporters if he fails to win the election. I have no doubt that he may very well go to that extreme. Remember what he said when asked if he would concede if Hilary won. He said that you will have to wait and see. This is the key to our system in which the loser gracious concedes unlike the other governments in which it results end up in armed rebellion. If it comes that our nation will be in great peril. There are thousands of his supporters who are armed to the teeth and just need and excuse to start a internal war. Just today he said that he has a lot of tough supporters, military, police and bikers who are his supporters and will not hesitate to defend him.

Yes, I do believe some Republicans will stand against threats like this. (some)

Talking like this, is indeed an impeachable offense. Trump is much too stupid to know it, but many others do know it.

I'm guessing every family with any kid in any club sport in the country is receiving the same emails. The savvy among us can see it is plainly a scam, this sheds a little more light. My kid is lucky, he is genuinely being recruited but there are thousands, probably millions, of kids who wish they were, with parents willing to do "whatever it takes."

The Toronto Star is a Canadian broadsheet daily newspaper. Based on 2015 statistics, it is Canada's highest-circulation newspaper on overall weekly circulation; although it is a close second to The Globe and Mail in daily circulation on weekdays, it overtakes the Globe in weekly circulation because the Globe does not publish a Sunday edition. The Toronto Star is owned by Toronto Star Newspapers Limited, a subsidiary of Torstar Corporation and part of Torstar's Daily News Brands division.
Also, most legitimate news sources know, wisely, to dismiss what appears on Breitbart as worthless crap, and not news.
Also, it's in the Washington Post now too:
Hell yes he just made a serious threat to the country.
Trump again nods toward violence by his supporters and maybe something bigger
By Aaron Blake
March 14 at 1:21 PM
No matter what the White House says, President Trump has repeatedly and not-subtly suggested his supporters could be violent sometimes in an approving manner. And theres a common thread running through much of it: Again and again, Trump has suggested they could rise up if they feel either they or Trump have been wronged by the political process.
There are several examples. The most well-worn was when Trump suggested during the 2016 campaign that Second Amendment people could stop a President Hillary Clinton from installing liberal judges. Trump played it off as a coincidence unrelated to violence that he flagged gun-rights supporters as the last line of defense against a political outcome he opposed.
Now, Trump is at it again. And this time, his statement has overtones of something bigger. ... In an interview with Trump-friendly Breitbart News this week, Trump talked about how tough the left was getting, relative to his supporters. His quote meanders a little bit, but stick with it and focus on the text in bold:
Its so terrible whats happening. You know, the left plays a tougher game, its very funny. I actually think that the people on the right are tougher, but they dont play it tougher. Okay? I can tell you, I have the support of the police, the support of the military, the support of the Bikers for Trump I have the tough people, but they dont play it tough until they go to a certain point, and then it would be very bad, very bad. But the left plays it cuter and tougher.
As The Washington Posts David Nakamura pointed out, this is actually quite similar to something Trump said at a September campaign rally for now-Sen. Josh Hawley (R) in Missouri:
Theyre so lucky that were peaceful. Law enforcement, military, construction workers, Bikers for Trump -- how about Bikers for Trump? They travel all over the country. They got Trump all over the place, and theyre great. Theyve been great. But these are tough people. These are great people. But theyre peaceful people, and Antifa and all -- theyd better hope they stay that way. I hope they stay that way. I hope they stay that way.

Let us pray these people remember their oaths are not to Trump but to this nation.
Armed Forces
I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.
National Guard
I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the State of (STATE NAME) against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the Governor of (STATE NAME) and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to law and regulations. So help me God.
Federal Agents
I [name] do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.
The clauses that should bind the military and national guard are, '...according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice,' and '...according to law and regulations.'
So, if it comes out that Trump has broken the law, and he is impeached, tried and removed from office, then he's no longer the president. Or, if he loses in 2020, and refuses to leave office, then he is also no longer the president. It is at that point that our armed forces, National Guard, and federal law enforcement MUST remember and uphold their oaths.
I guess the real question here is:
Will our institutions hold?
We'd better hope they do. Fervently.

(8,678 posts)But the damage has been done just by saying it.
This guy has all the hallmarks of a dictator in the making and needs to be impeached or arrested or force out of office before its too late.

(7,134 posts)Putin has an infamous bikers' club, Night Wolves, that supports him. They like to ride around intimidating and roughing up protesters.
What next? Is Trump going to take up martial arts like Putin?

(4,522 posts)He's going to get worse as the vise tightens.
He's going to do **anything*** to stay out of prison.
If he get's impeached, indicted etc - it's going to get really ugly.
If he hangs on to 2020 and gets beat - it's gong to be a really scary ~70 days because as soon as he leaves office it's open season.
Not good that he's already floating these things....

(13,595 posts)biker friends. Some probably know someone that knows someone that you wouldn't want a problem with. Of course you don't call in that kind of favor if you have any sense. If someone seriously messed with her, the right people might find out about it and deal with it. It sure as shit isn't something you go around shooting your mouth off about.
I'd say the bikers I know tend to be conservative. A lot of them hated Son's of Anarchy because that kind of thing makes them look bad. That show was okay I thought, but got kind of ridiculous. There aren't enough hours in the day to be that bad assed of a bad assed biker! There's a reason why they don't call themselves "biker gangs". Even the guys that love Trump won't appreciate that.
There are the hard core 1%er bikers out there. Not as many as people think. Some are just wannabe's. I know a guy that wears a 1% patch and rides a Sportster! LOL The guys that would commit acts of violence for Trump are probably right in the middle of the meth trade and all that crap. Not exactly who you should be bragging about being fans.

(32,778 posts)Pretty laid back. Many are high paid execs playing bad boy. The creed of violence is pretty much a myth. She wouldnt be there otherwise. She does the same job for the Barrett Jackson car auction and meets many many cops and retired cops doing security for her detail. Same there, most are really good guys. They dont talk politics, but even in the red state of AZ they are not about supporting or inciting violence.. for anyone! Not even the orange goon
