House committee chairs demand full Mueller report by April 2 deadline
Source: NBC News
In a three-page letter to the attorney general, they wrote that his summary of the Mueller report is not sufficient for Congress.
WASHINGTON Six Democratic committee chairs in the House sent a letter to Attorney General William Barr Monday requesting that he submit the full report from special counsel Robert Muellers Russia investigation to Congress by next Tuesday, April 2.
In a three-page letter to Barr, they wrote that his summary of the Mueller report is not sufficient for Congress.
We look forward to receiving the report in full no later than April 2, and to begin receiving the underlying evidence and documents that same day, the letter said.
The top House Democrats argued that the provision of the report in complete and unredacted form and the underlying evidence and materials would be fully consistent with the Justice Departments practice and precedent with Congress.

(36,137 posts)Also, there's the legal precedent of Nixon vs. the U.S. ruled that presidential privilege re materials subpoenaed for use in a criminal trial cannot override the needs of the judicial process if that claim is based merely on the ground of a generalized interest in confidentiality. Nixon's own "summary" was rejected, and he was ordered to deliver the subpoenaed materials to the District Court.
So if Congress -- the First Branch of government -- files in the DC District to get the Report and all supporting evidence, SCOTUS precedent exists to hold The People's interest over the arbitrary desire of a president -- or AG, in this case, who does the prez's distasteful dirty work -- refusing to hand it over.
Yep, we'll see.

(2,947 posts)states with a democratic majority in the legislature. (Don't know about governors.) If one or all of these states passed a law barring a presidential candidate from being on the ballot in 2020 without evidence of 10 years of tax returns, Trump would not be able to cheat his way to an electoral college victory because he won't qualify to be a candidate in 2020. It seems a simple way to beat him in 2020.

(723 posts)saying a sitting president can't be indicted. That goodness we took the house. The USA would be so screwed if Dems hadn't won in 2018.
