Chicago police release Jussie Smollett case files

Source: WGN TV

CHICAGO — The Chicago Police Department has released its police reports in the Jussie Smollett case in response to a Freedom of Information Act request from WGN.

CPD provided WGN with two reports. Both reports have redactions.

Smollett had been charged with 16 counts of disorderly conduct after Chicago police say he staged a racial and homophobic attack in the city in January. Those charges will be now be wiped from Smollett’s record.

You can read the reports below:

they spent.

I wonder whether the prosecutors could not see an unbiased jury.

Or maybe the Cook Co DA wanted to make Emmanuel look like a numpty as Rahm sputtered yesterday about a "whitewash of justice" given Emmanuel & his PD holding back the images from the Murder of Laquan McDonald.

greatly to ratcheting up racial tensions throughout our country. As far as I'm concerned, he played right along with Trumps band. I'm glad they released this.

His crimes weren't violent or endangering to innocent bystanders, so I understand a bit of leniency.

He's probably already ruined his own career except on reality TV.

I mean, are there not a couple of politicians who are (trying to get?) re-elected despite felony convictions?

All of the police reports released to WGN were in response to a Freedom of Information Act request. Just as quickly as those documents arrived in reporters’ inboxes, a judge slapped police back, reminding them these documents, along with the rest of the Smollett case file, were sealed Tuesday when prosecutors’ dropped their case.

This is rather remarkable--the police received an FOIA request and immediately responded by turning over the requested information. This is "man-bites-dog" territory here!
