Trump Mocks Asylum Seekers Who Claim They Fear For Their Lives: 'A Big Fat Con Job'

As President Donald Trump spoke about immigration on Thursday at his campaign rally in Michigan, he launched into a tangent at one point where he mocked immigration lawyers and asylum seekers begging the United States to protect them.
As Trump bashed Democrats proposing amnesty for those fleeing desperate conditions in their homelands, he accused immigration lawyers of coaching migrants to tell U.S. officials I am very afraid for my life. I am afraid for my life.
I look at the guy, he looks like he just got out of the ring, hes the heavyweight champion of the world, Trump said. Its a big fat con job, folks. A big fat con job.

(34,393 posts)his little Nuremberg-Lite Hatefest in Grand Rapids was his worst yet in a vile campaign season. So glad I got the hell out of there. It's much better here in Lansing. Better Indian and Chinese food, too, by far. I think its the diverse MSU population that evens things out. I live about a mile from campus. A Nepali/Bhutanese restaurant recently opened, which is awesome. You can't walk 10 feet in GR without seeing a DeVos this or a Van Andel that. It's disgusting.

(16,786 posts)I was once a proud AMWAY Independent Business owner developing a network of consumers and helping others make some extra money. I met Rich DeVos at the AMWAY Grand Plaza in 1996 after a Speech. He was down to earth and humble . His Compassionate Capitalism book was an inspiration that "when you have something to believe in and someone to believe in you, anything is possible " was what he said to me.
Now that Rich is gone, I have nothing but contempt for Dick and Betsy DeVos. I left the AMWAY family in the mid 2000's because of their politics. The network I had built, understood. I still get residual checks because many are still active. I LOVE the products, I cannot stand the DeVos family and their ardent support of Trump.

(34,393 posts)It's like a weird cult. Back in the early 1980's, I worked at a florist (a cousin of Rich DeVos owned it) in the green plant department and we'd go out to homes and businesses to maintain their indoor greenery. Every time we'd go to Amway I'd get the creeps. On one wall of the reception area, in a recessed, darkened alcove, was a portrait of Richard DeVos and, on the opposite wall in an identical alcove, a portrait of Jay Van Andel. What was so creepy about that? There were six lights that looked like candles, three on each side of the portraits, like an altar, softly flickering in the darkness like they were holy shrines at The Vatican or something. The weirdest thing I've ever seen in my life.
And then there was the time I completely shredded my hands tying 1,000 roses in those little water tubes to rose bushes at the Van Andel's for a garden wedding in August. Apparently, there weren't enough roses blooming for them. We were coerced by the owner into helping the floral department setup for the wedding. We didn't even get overtime for it.* I think that might be the most ridiculous thing I've ever done, because the rose garden looked lovely to begin with. It looked garish afterwards, which was no surprise to me. "New money" and all that. Their taste in home decorating was only slightly less ghastly than trump's.
*I and a couple other folks that worked in the plant department ended up complaining to the Michigan Department of Labor for this and other sleazy things the owner tried to pull to avoid paying us. We were awarded a substantial amount of back pay and he had to pay a hefty fine. What a sleazeball he was.
Good times, sigh.

(6,228 posts)trump the con told the Michigan rally that he will put the money in for the Great Lakes. What a liar! I abhor trump and the repubs. When will this nightmare end? trump won Michigan by 10,000 votes. It's as if the repubs have totally ignored the results of the Midterms. Michigan has a Dem Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General and Secretary of State. Our Senators (Peters & Stabenow) are Dems. Polls show trump is down here. trump will not win Michigan.

I know its a fantasy and the orange maggot has zero empathy for anyone but himself.

(279 posts)I can tell you that there are in fact quite a few who are just making up stories or who very clearly do not meet the requirements but who will never be asked to leave because the hearings rarely happen (one Ive been working on is now 3 years in and we expect at least another year before there is any hearing).
That said, there are of course many, many people coming here in search of asylum who have legitimate claims and who are fleeing horrible violence. We cant let the liars get in the way of helping those people.
