In bid to remain out of jail, Michael Cohen tells Congress he has more to add

Source: CNN

President Donald Trump's former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen is offering Democrats new information in a bid to stay out of jail while he cooperates with Congress.

Cohen's attorneys Lanny Davis and Michael Monico told lawmakers in a letter Thursday that Cohen has discovered substantial files on a hard drive that might be helpful to investigators.

Cohen is asking for additional time -- and congressional help -- to persuade the Southern District of New York to allow him to postpone reporting to jail in order to review the files. Cohen's lawyers wrote in the letter, obtained by CNN, they hoped Cohen would receive a reduced term, and that the May 6 date Cohen is scheduled to report to prison "will be substantially postponed while he is fully cooperating with prosecutors and Congress."

He is asking top Democrats on the committees where he testified to write letters outlining his cooperation that he could use to lobby prosecutors for a lesser sentence.

really know what he has. Prior to testifying before Congress, he spent two days searching to locate the copy of the check for the Stormy Daniels reimbursement. If you haven't watched his testimony you might want to. Watching him hand the GOP their asses was a thing of beauty, especially since it was done so subtly.

Cohen is the only Trumper who seems genuinely repentant. I don't know how much time he deserves, but I know he deserves the least amount of time of all the Trump criminal entourage.

report which Barr has buried. Having Cohen testify again, in public, will bring light to what Barr & the rePUBICs have put into darkness.
Give him time, and give him the national stage. Drip drip drip.

I imagine it wouldn't be difficult for law enforcement (federal and/or state) to get a judge to issue a warrant requiring him to turn over the hard drive -- he's essentially admitted it contains evidence of possible criminal activity.
