Lindsey Graham introduces bill which would ban abortions after 20 weeks

Source: cbs

April 9, 2019 / 2:15 PM / CBS News

Sen. Lindsey Graham, Republican from South Carolina, is once again introducing the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would ban abortions after 20 weeks. Graham has sponsored this bill every year since 2013 only to have it defeated again and again in Congress.

This year might be different, thanks to a conservative majority in the Supreme Court and several restrictive abortion measures being passed in Republican-controlled states across the country. But the bill would still need 60 votes to bypass a filibuster and pass the Senate, an extremely unlikely outcome given that Republicans control only 54 seats in the chamber. And it would also need to pass the House, which now has a substantial Democratic majority.

Graham, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, held a full committee hearing on the legislation before speaking to reporters on Tuesday. Operating under the premise that an unborn child feels pain at 20 weeks, or five months, the legislation only has exceptions for cases of rape or when the mother's life is in danger.

"I think science is on our side," Graham said in the press conference. He offered the fact that surgeons operating on unborn children use anesthesia as evidence that they feel pain. Graham said that Sen. Joe Manchin, a Democrat who sometimes breaks rank with his party, may be willing to sign onto the bill.

Now they have the courts too. The Supreme Court is known as the Roberts Court. Will Roberts want his name on ending Roe v Wade which has been settled law since 1973? We shall see.

deny women full autonomy over their own persons. We are not submissive chattel, we are not lesser beings, and we are not baby making machines.

Damn Lindsey Graham and every other man of his like minded, bigoted, misogynistic ilk to the lowest level of their mythical hell, and may they find it to be ruled by a fiendishly vindictive, female demon.

We strip out all the anti-abortion language and then we add:

1) An absolute ban on "abstinence-based sex ed" in every school in the US that receives public funding, and a requirement that every student take and pass "comprehensive sex ed" to graduate from any of these schools.

2) Improvements to Medicaid, WIC, AFDC and other programs designed to assist low-income families.

3) A requirement that all religion-based anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers display on every entry door to their facilities that they will attempt to coerce clients into not getting an abortion.

4) The permanent repeal of the Hyde Amendment.

5) Murdering an abortion clinic employee, regardless of if the murderer knew the victim was an abortion clinic employee, is a federal offense punishable by death by hanging.

6) Inciting another person to murder an abortion clinic employee, whether directly or indirectly, will be treated as if the person doing the inciting had killed the employee himself.

7) A rule in both houses of Congress that any attempt to enter a restrictive abortion law will trigger the simultaneous entry of a restrictive gun law.

8) Streamlining the process of public adoptions. Also, if a woman chooses to give her child up for adoption the government will pay all her medical bills.

9) Allow pregnant women to receive the Child Tax Credit during their pregnancy. For multi-tax-year pregnancies (get pregnant this year, deliver next) a note from a doctor confirming pregnancy will allow the taxpayer to claim the credit in the year of conception. For single-tax-year pregnancies, the taxpayer may claim the credit for this child for the year before the pregnancy began. (Right now you're thinking: Why do that? Well, fair is fair. It wouldn't really be right to tell Mrs. Smith "you got pregnant in December 2020, you get a baby tax credit even though your baby was roughly the size of a pea on January 1" then tell Mrs. Jones "you got pregnant on January 2nd, 2021 , so you don't get an extra year of baby tax credit." Besides, new parents can use the money.)

What don't these MEN get about the notion of having control over your own body? If the science becomes available that allows an embryo to be implanted into a male who agrees to rear and support the ensuing child for a minimum of 18 years, abortion legislation MIGHT be taken into consideration.

If they did, they’d mix themselves up a bathtub full of Jonestown Kool Aid and have a Republicans-Only Picnic. (Except instead of cyanide, rat poison would be more appropriate.) Their whole goal is to abolish sex for pleasure.

What these assholes do not realize is, every woman in America has the option of sex for pleasure without fear of pregnancy or disease at her disposal right now. Unfortunately for GOP Control Freaks’ fantasies of male domination of American women, this risk-free sex involves two women and no men.
