Gun groups: Million-plus extended magazines flood California

Source: Associated Press

Don Thompson, Associated Press Updated 7:28 pm CDT, Thursday, April 11, 2019

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — More than a million high-capacity ammunition magazines flooded into California during a one-week window created when a federal judge temporarily threw out the state's ban, gun owners' groups estimated Thursday.

Reform groups said the projections are self-serving as gun rights organizations try to make the case that magazines holding more than 10 bullets are so common now that a ban is impractical.

The magazines aren't tracked. But there are plenty of anecdotal indications that the floodgates briefly opened when U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez overturned the state's nearly 20-year-old ban late last month.

The judge halted sales a week later, but ruled that those who bought the magazines can legally own them while the state appeals his ruling.

Nothing. High-capacity magazines in the state before the ban were grandfathered in years ago NickB79 Apr 2019 #11

Has there ever been a precedent for it elsewhere in other states?

that would mean owners no longer legally own them, and illegally own them instead? They are not going to care.

Hey, us Patriots got to weaponize! For the Zombie Apocalypse, saw the movie, I'm sure it's gong to happen any day now!
(Yes, intentional sarcasm)

The law moves so slowly, and opportunists move so quickly . . .

And since magazines have no serial numbers, you can't tell which are new and which are old.

I am just a GOOD shot and I do not need 30 rounds. Blind shooters require many bullets because they can not hit SHIT...........

I am happy with my standard capacity mags. Sounds like we are both happy. I wouldn't recommend firearm ownership for folks who are visually impaired though...

…..vehemently supporting the rights of the visually impaired to the use and ownership of firearms. Gun discussions used to be a lot more dramatic, hereabouts; I'm glad things have simmered down, some.

If I can't defend myself with 6 rounds of .357, it's time for me to shuffle off this mortal coil.

I do like large capacity magazines for one simple reason- range time here is expensive and uncomfortable; being able to load up (Ruger 10/22) a bunch of large capacity magazines at homewould be a great time and finger saver; they really should have made an exception for rimfire, a .22 is not exactly going to be the weapon of choice for mass murderers.

What exactly are you planning to defend yourself against? When was the last time?
Serious question, for all I know, you are a backwoods type and groups of bears/zombies/feral pigs haunt your area.

Just asking.

But the high capacity magazines, great for those who want to make lots of noise!
