Julian Assange must face Swedish justice first - MPs and peers

Source: BBC

More than 70 MPs and peers have signed a letter urging the home secretary to ensure Julian Assange faces authorities in Sweden if they want his extradition.

The Wikileaks founder, who is now in UK custody, was arrested on Thursday after years in Ecuador's London embassy.

Sweden is considering whether to reopen an investigation into rape and sexual assault allegations against him.

And the US is seeking his extradition in relation to one of the largest ever leaks of government secrets, in 2010.

They don't get to decide this at all. So far, the Swedish authorities haven't made a new extradition request. If they do, then it's up to the courts, not parliament, on which request has priority, or which is granted. The goverment (not parliament) might be able to influence that by not pushing one. And there 650 MPs, and even more peers. 70 signatures means squat. Slow news day.

There is no way the Republicans are going to allow Assange to testify about how the Russians gave him the Democratic emails. His prospects for remaining alive depend on his silence.

...he's going to want to face a Swedish Court and prison vs. a US one, and before his sentence ends, escape to a Russian Embassy or border...if they take him. Unless he thinks Dump will give him a pardon, but why would he do that? It makes Dump look guilty.

45 can look. On his hopefully last day of office 1/21, I suspect he’ll pardon every white repub male in the country - plus one female, Ivanka.

As I understand it. In the US he's only looking at criminal hacking charges, that is subject to change of course) maximum 5 years. He's looking at 4-10 in Sweden. With a boatload of stigma that goes without.

....but he'll probably be looking at more charges once he's on US soil. And US prisons are dehumanizing where as in Nordic countries its about rehabilitation.

In Sweden, you get metal forks and spoons to eat your meals, in the USA, you get Bologna Sandwiches and Bean Burritos.

My assumption is he goes to a country club prison with minimum recommened sentence. Do you doubt Chump made recommendations about the Manafort sentence.
