UPDATE: Mueller report's release expected Thursday, Justice Dept. says
Source: Washington Post
The Justice Department expects to release on Thursday a redacted version of special counsel Robert S. Mueller IIIs report on President Trump, his associates and Russias interference in the 2016 election, setting the stage for further battles in Congress over the politically explosive inquiry. Kerri Kupec, a spokeswoman for the department, said Monday that officials plan to issue the report to Congress and the public on Thursday morning.
The report, which runs nearly 400 pages without exhibits, has been the subject of heated debate since Attorney General William P. Barr notified lawmakers last month that Mueller had completed his 22-month investigation.
The reports release to Congress and the public will come days after Barr told Congress he believed spying on the Trump campaign occurred during the 2016 election a statement that buoyed Trump and his supporters, who have long argued the Russia investigation arose from false accusations and bad motives.
In a four-page letter, Barr said in March that Mueller did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Barrs letter also said the special counsel withheld judgment on whether Trump tried to obstruct justice during the investigation.

Attorney General William P. Barr told lawmakers last month that he needed time to redact sensitive information from the document before it could be made public. Spanning nearly 400 pages, the document details the findings of special counsel Robert S. Mueller IIIs 22-month investigation of President Trumps conduct, that of his advisers and Russias interference in the 2016 election.
This is a developing story. It will be updated.

(108,980 posts)So that members of Congress wouldn't be together, in session, when the damn thing comes out. They will be scattered across 50 states and unable to talk about confidential things except in secured phones or in SCIFS.
And they picked the day before Good Friday, when they hoped as many as media people as possible might be taking long weekends and the story might just blow over.

(129,062 posts)(or more importantly their staff who go through the legal stuff and advise them with next steps) more time to actually comb through it. I.e., they won't be "distracted" by the day to day minutia of the Congressional work day.
And remember, not everyone celebrates "Easter".

(129,062 posts)"holidays" mean nothing when it comes to something that is considered "high priority". And remember, Democrats controlling the relevant Committees (particularly in this case, the Judiciary Committee) voted on April 3rd to authorize the issuance of subpoenas, if necessary, to obtain the full report - and these would be used if they either didn't get it at all or if it was redacted when they do get it (in addition to obtaining testimony from individuals who refuse to testify before the committee). So I expect they will get a redacted copy and will probably issue the subpoena for the full, unredacted report.
Congress and their staff don't work "regular people" schedules .They are actually off, meaning not in session (on what they dub "District time" ) far more than the average person.
ETA - neither "Good Friday" nor "Easter Monday" are federal holidays. It was always frustrating for me the first couple years when I had started working for the federal government and caught public transit there every day, when the transit company operated on a "Saturday schedule" that Good Friday, so I had to adjust my schedule to get in and get home. After a few years of that, I started driving and then carpooled to work.

(108,980 posts)And so are many others. And how can they talk about classified matters without a secured phone or in a SCIF?
But beyond that, much of the news media plans for an extended weekend, and many families are taking spring vacations. I have to believe that this is being dropped on that day with this in mind.
BumRushDaShow
(129,062 posts)But they had a "spring break" back in March (week of the 18th). In fact, they pretty much get a week "off" (back in their districts) every month except June this year because they will be off the whole month of August until after Labor Day.

And trust me, something as "juicy" as this - someone who is a "reporter" knows they are on "24/7" when there is a breaking news story. You may have some of your "well known" TV personalities off but the networks won't be shut down and they all want the "scoop". It is worth it to them in terms of Pulitizers and whatnot!
And if anything, that is why they pay staff. The staff (who most likely live in D.C.) will be the ones reviewing and summarizing.
