McCain to Hannity: Fox 'wrong about Libya'
Source: Politico
Sen. John McCain on Thursday night clashed with Sean Hannity, telling the Fox News host that he and others on the network were wrong about Libya.
McCain's remarks came after Hannity claimed he had accurately predicted that the Muslim Brotherhood would take control of Egypt, and pressed the Arizona Republican on why the Obama administration was not able to foresee this week's attacks on U.S. diplomats in North Africa.
How is it that Sean Hannity and a few others of us out here predicted with pinpoint accuracy that the Muslim Brotherhood would be in charge in Egypt? Their first task when they took over the Parliament was to declare Israel, our closest ally, an enemy. First, their number one enemy, Hannity said. How is it that the administration with all their intelligence and all the money we spend to help them and the CIA how is it that they didnt see this coming? And they kept telling the American people, this is democracy. Democracy. I dont view the Muslim Brotherhood as democracy. They want Sharia law implemented now in Egypt.
McCain pushed back, telling Hannity that thats not clear that thats true and that he and Fox News were wrong with their take on the elections in Libya.
But also it was you and people on Fox that said in Libya, we didnt know who they were and lets not help these people. They had an election and they elected moderates. They rejected Islamists, McCain said. And yes, there are Al Qaeda factors and there are extremists in Libya today, but the Libyan people are friends of ours, and they support us, and they support democracy. So you were wrong about Libya.

(61,695 posts)then Senator McCain warned Palin not to team up with or indulge the right-wing wackos like Rush and Hannity. But Palin listens like a teenager, thinking she knows everything.

(36,827 posts)It was pretty funny because naturally Hannity got all huffy puffy about being called out as a liar. Since he only has people on his show he thinks will agree with him, I'm sure this was a big shock.

(59,503 posts)and though McCain was willing to disagree with his party on some issues - especially immigration and campaign financing in the 1990s, he always was a small government conservative.
If he was politically where Specter was, he might have switched to Democrat in 2003/2004 when one of his staff pushed the idea that Kerry could unite the country by taking the unusual step of making McCain VP. Kerry thought it possible only if McCain became a Democrat - and it went nowhere. Politically it did not make sense - in spite of the areas like veterans benefits that they worked on together.

(11,014 posts)politics always makes strange bedfellows. The republican party has gone so far off the cliff, people like McCain can't possibly feel like they belong in there.

(31,011 posts)He stood up to the bat crazy crowd and he was very gracious when he conceded the election to President Obama.
He continues to do the right thing and we should acknowledge that even though he politically, he's on the other side.
He stood up ONCE! But he let lil Sarah sow hate and racism day after day without putting a stop to it, so he's still on my shit list. That being said, I appreciate this moment of sanity from him. It serves as a reminder of what he might have been had he not sold out for his chance at the presidency.

(31,011 posts)He is responsible for mainstreaming Palin and her ilk. He did refuse to go down the race-baiting route that Rmoney/Ryan are doing.
I know a lot of folks don't like him for very valid reasons and I don't fault you or anyone else for that. For me, though, he ended his run with honor.
