* Ryan slams Obama's abortion stance in speech to conservatives
* Says Obama economic approach led to greater poverty
* Accuses president of emboldening U.S. enemies in Middle East

WASHINGTON, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan launched a broad assault on President Barack Obama in a speech to social conservatives on Friday, accusing him of pandering to extremists on abortion and emboldening U.S. enemies in the Middle East.
The Wisconsin congressman told the Values Voters Summit, an annual gathering of religious and conservative activists, that Obama had led a "reckless expansion of federal power" and waged economic class warfare.
Declaring himself "a values voter, too," Ryan mocked Democrats for their convention fight over the mention of God in the platform and questioned claims by Obama that "we're all in this together."
"How hollow it sounds coming from a politician who has never once lifted a hand to defend the most helpless and innocent of all human beings, the child waiting to be born," Ryan said.

(1,574 posts)Ryan himself does not pander to extremists? Then again he's one himself right? Ryan and his ilk care more about the unborn than the already born, that includes children, elderly and the unemployed.

(1,727 posts)or 1/2 abortion of a fetus. Choice is the only option that gives the pregnant woman the right to decide which of the various options she wishes to pursue. That isn't extreme. Killing abortion doctors is extreme. Providing birth control pills and the morning after pill is not extreme. Following the Constitution as set forth in Supreme Court decisions is not extreme. If Ryan and his followers want to save the unborn, they need only to volunteer for the implantation of a fetus to be (fertilized eggs) in their wives, daughters, mothers and friends. Research funds should be spent on creating an artificial womb or on ways for men to have children. And of course, no welfare, insurance, food stamps or any deductions for child care should be provided to such families in honor of their right to be free from the government. It gets down right silly to follow Ryan's philosophy to its logical (illogical) conclusion.

Just focus on: Fear, fear, fear, terror, fear, abortion, Kenya, and this FAKE thing about the economy which is bouncing back.

Keep it up. Rip the prez on foreign policy before the facts are out, rededicate yourselves to the War on Women, and listen to Krauthammer and Rubin cheer on more neocon wars.
You better have Diebold and the Supreme Court as your backup, cuz that's all you got.

(582 posts)You mean when you de-fund the Federal Part of the Planned Parenthood, you are against healthy babies being born? It is true, PP provides more well baby services than abortion services. You you are not an extremist when your budget cuts the chances for the child to have food, medical, and a home after being born? You mean the policies that you prevented from being implemented created more poverty. You really can't blame Obama, you didn't let him do anything. Heck, with all the budget fights we're still using Bush's last budget, adjusted for inflation. And lastly, Mr Ryan, it is an extremist that says personhood begins at conception. That is an extreme position.

(10,716 posts)Someone who thinks women have the right to chose to have an abortion?
Because an extremist will parse words about rape ... is it legitimate or not??
Will demand ONLY one way ... his way ... of course we need all these unwanted babies brought into this world ... but don't expect anyone to help feed, educate, or provide them with health care.
An extremist will say that a woman should ENJOY carrying the results of rape or incest around for nine months and then raise it.
THAT is an extremist on the abortion issue. Project much, Paulie?

(2,940 posts)The opposite of Ryan's anti abortion extremism would be government forcing abortions on women who don't want them. That could properly be called pro-abortion extremism, but of course nobody who is pro-choice would support that.
Believing that women should be able to choose safe, legal, private abortions IF THEY CHOOSE TO is not extremism by any meaningful definition of that word. It's literally the midpoint between two extreme positions.
