Obama Erases Romneys Edge on Economy
President Obama has taken away Mitt Romneys longstanding advantage as the candidate voters say is most likely to restore the economy and create jobs, according to the latest poll by The New York Times and CBS News, which found a modest sense of optimism among Americans that White House policies are working.
But while the climate for Mr. Obama has improved since midsummer, and Mr. Romney has failed to shift sentiment decisively in his favor, the poll found that the presidential race is narrowly divided.
With their conventions behind them and the general election fully engaged, the Democratic Party is viewed more favorably than the Republican Party. The poll also found more likely voters give an edge to Mr. Obama on foreign policy, Medicare and addressing the challenges of the middle class. The only major issue on which Mr. Romney held an advantage was handling the federal budget deficit.

(7,403 posts)Obviously people do not know how to analyze budget details. Last year Obama offered a "grand bargin" that would have cut spending by $10 for every $1 in tax increases. That was turned down. Obama signed into law "sequesteration" which does not renew any of the temporary tax cuts while cutting $1 trillion in spending. Obama now has a proposal, stalled in the House that would return the tax rate for those with earnings above $200-250,000 to what they were during the Clinton years. All of these would make a very significant reduction in the budget deficit. And what has Romney proposed? Well, some talking points that he calls principles that cannot be scored by CBO so we don't have a clue, really.

(7,403 posts)This quote is from Romney spokeswoman Tara Wall. "the campaign has laid out a number of specifics relative to the principles that will guide the policies of a Romney-Ryan ticket".
So, there you have it. A concise summary of the Romney budget. Now if you can tell me what it means you are a better person than me.

(50,557 posts)Take out Schedule A. Draw a line through everything except Charitable Contributions, and those will probably be restricted to churches, hospitals and schools.
Then draw a line through ALL social spending including Medicare and Social Security.
You now have the Romney economic plan in a nutshell. The problem is, if Romney goes out and campaigns on a plan to kill your mortgage deduction, your health insurance deduction and your educational deduction, he'll lose Idaho. And he knows it. Therefore, the intent is to talk about "closing loopholes enjoyed by the upper class" until he gets sworn in, and then we find out what he wants.
