ADP National Employment Report: Private Sector Employment Increased by 275,000 Jobs in April
ROSELAND, N.J. May 1, 2019 Private sector employment increased by 275,000 jobs from March to April according to the April ADP National Employment Report®. Broadly distributed to the public each month, free of charge, the ADP National Employment Report is produced by the ADP Research Institute® in collaboration with Moodys Analytics. The report, which is derived from ADPs actual payroll data, measures the change in total nonfarm private employment each month on a seasonally-adjusted basis.
April posted an uptick in growth after the first quarter appeared to signal a moderation following a strong 2018, said Ahu Yildirmaz, vice president and co-head of the ADP Research Institute. The bulk of the overall growth is with service providers, adding the strongest gain in more than two years.
Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moodys Analytics, said, The job market is holding firm, as businesses work hard to fill open positions. The economic soft patch at the start of the year has not materially impacted hiring. Aprils job gains overstate the economys strength, but they make the case that expansion continues on."

Analysts say Fridays BLS report will show a lot less.

There are continued retreats in other areas too.
For now my portfolio remains slightly conservative.

As for the governments report Friday, Zandi said it may contain its own quirks. For instance, the government report theoretically could be inflated by census workers added to the government payrolls in April or May.
That could be a couple hundred thousand people, he said.

(32,082 posts)They are just beginning to take applications at things like job fairs, etc. The hiring process takes months. There will be no uptick from the Census for many months.

(10,920 posts)so that he doesn't screw up so badly again and mislead so many thousands of people. Perhaps provide him a link of the projected hiring schedule, so that it sounds like more than just your opinion.
BTW I'm well aware (and was well aware when I posted) that the census is in 2020.

(32,082 posts)But I am a Field Representative for the Census Bureau in Chicago. I also worked on many Census projects last census in the 2009-2010 period and some in the intervening years. I know the reality of hiring by the Bureau. Maybe Zandi can provide a legitimate quote from a Census Bureau administrator which would confirm his "opinion".

(10,920 posts)readers. (And CNBC too, so they are more careful about quoting Zandi in the future). As opposed to the couple dozen who might read your comment here on this thread. I'm sure he/they will be impressed and grateful.
As a bonus, maybe you can ask Zandi for the source of his information, and contact that source and get them squared away too.

(1,245 posts)Maybe not a contraction, but I sure see signs of a slowdown. Hell, even Dotard is asking for more QE. The hypocrisy being all the wing nuts bitched back when QE was done during 44s watch.
