Ex-governor's phone seized in Flint water probe

LANSING, Mich. (AP) Authorities investigating Flints water crisis have used search warrants to seize from storage the state-owned mobile devices of former Gov. Rick Snyder and 65 other current or former officials, The Associated Press has learned.
The warrants were sought two weeks ago by the attorney generals office and signed by a Flint judge, according to documents the AP obtained through public-records requests.
Solicitor General Fadwa Hammoud and Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, who is helping with the probe, confirmed they executed a series of search warrants related to the criminal investigation of Flints lead-contaminated water in 2014-15 and an outbreak of Legionnaires disease. They declined further comment.
One warrant, signed May 19, lists all content from Snyders cellphone, iPad and computer hard drive. Similar information was sought from the devices of 33 employees who worked in his office, 11 in the Department of Environmental Quality and 22 in the Department of Health and Human Services.

(638 posts)He ruined so many lives with the flint water fiasco not to mention taking the right to vote in local elections away from the people of Detroit. I hope he rots in prison.

(29,322 posts)There were Flint residents (who many didn't vote in 2016) that didn't like his glass of water stunt and felt he could have done more at the federal level since the state government was failing them and also doing field training excersizes in abandoned buildings in Flint weren't helpful.
Still the filmed ripped Rick Snyder more than anybody else.

(14,586 posts)had functioning democracy for some time.
Any time a governor can declare a city to be financially insolvent and remove all the elected officials and replace them with appointees - well, that's a despicable, and definitely un-democratic policy.

(15,289 posts)surprise me if they've been cleaned so they are ready for re-issue unless the agency that owns the phones was told to hold them in the same condition in which they were returned.
