Those type of people are in all states.

but states like TN seem to be particularly susceptible to control by RWNJs including phony xtian types. Higher percentage of them in positions of authority. The signs of a state I would avoid include e.g. GOPee control of the governorship + state legislature, voter suppression, population still supports red don, refused to expand Medicaid, passed or considering abortion bans, etc.

My beloved and I lived for 16 years in Nashville. As a gay couple, we found the state capital to be a decent enough place to live. I even spent many years working at a school. We never felt like we had to be cautious or subdued there. (We are a bit subdued anyway). We were married in a wonderful ceremony on Percy Priest lake and once it became so, we were legally wed in the county courthouse by a friend who was a judge. It is true that east Tennessee is a bit... conservative... but that is not always true about the entirety of any state. (However, I would hang back from TN now, as it is about to go through an interesting housing episode. They are overbuilding it badly).
