Trump White House Says OSC Is Violating Kellyanne Conway's 'Free Speech' By Calling for Firing

Source: Mediaite

President Donald Trump‘s White House press shop was quick to respond to the news that the Office of Special Counsel has called for Kellyanne Conway‘s firing for repeated violations of federal law by stating that their findings “violate her constitutional rights to free speech and due process.”

On Thursday afternoon, the OSC released a report finding that Conway repeatedly violated the Hatch Act, and recommending she be removed from federal service.

Immediately following that report, White House Deputy Press Secretary Steven Groves released a statement condemning the ruling.

“The Office of Special Counsel’s (OSC) unprecedented actions against Kellyanne Conway are deeply flawed and violate her constitutional rights to free speech and due process,” the statement read. “Others, of all political views, have objected to the OSC’s unclear and unevenly applied rules which have a chilling effect on free speech for all federal employees. Its decisions seem to be influenced by media pressure and liberal organizations — and perhaps OSC should be mindful of its own mandate to act in a fair, impartial, non-political manner, and not misinterpret or weaponize the Hatch Act.”

Just say no.

All media. Don't call her for comment. Don't invite her on panels. Don't interview her. Don't print or report on her press releases. Don't return her calls. Don't attend her media events.

Sure, that leaves Fox. Okay.

BTW, your rights to free speech change when you're a federal employee and when you speak in that capacity.

Can I now write bad checks, on the grounds that preventing from so doing infringes on my 1A rights?

"Congress shall make no law abridging the right of the people peaceably to assemble" means he can meet with Russians to get "opposition research," so long as everyone's nice and polite.

In passing the Hatch Act, Congress affirmed that partisan activity government employees must be limited for public institutions to function fairly and effectively. The courts have held that the Hatch Act is not an unconstitutional infringement on employees’ first amendment right to freedom of speech because it specifically provides that employees retain the right to speak out on political subjects and candidates.

up to and including the denizens of the White House, don't have a freaking clue as to what 'Free Speech' really means.

Obviously, Steven Groves is part of that vast majority.

(If you are part of the vast majority, to get a better understanding of how Free Speech works, try calling your boss an idiot and an asshole a few times and discover that while the feds won't arrest you, your boss can and probably will fire your ass on the spot.)

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway now bears the undistinguished honor of having a Trump appointee take the unprecedented step of calling for her removal from government. That’s after the Office of Special Counsel — no, not Robert S. Mueller III — for the second time found that she has committed multiple violations of the Hatch Act.

Making the situation even more embarrassing for Conway: Just two weeks ago, she taunted the news media about her Hatch Act violations, asking when her “jail sentence” would begin.

Conway isn’t going to jail, and it also seems unlikely President Trump will act on the Office of Special Counsel’s recommendation. But given the news, it’s worth looking back on the May 29 clip — and the falsehoods, pomposity and general disdain for ethics rules Conway displays.

Let’s take it piece by piece.....................
