St. Louis businessman Dave Spence, R., has made his economic expertise the foundation of his campaign for governor. Spence stresses his experience leading Alpha Packaging in his stump speech, and his campaign biography touts a degree in Economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on Tuesday that Spences degree is in home economics, not economics. According to the report, Spence majored in consumer economics, and earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Home Economics in 1981.
I was not the greatest student in the world, Spence told the paper. He explained his grades did not meet the requirements to enter Mizzous business school, so he chose an alternative route that allowed him to graduate on time.
Spence acknowledged to the paper that the description on the campaign website may be misleading, but the campaign has not changed it. Instead, the campaign accused Democrats of using sad political smear tactics to attack Spence.
