Mexico sends nearly 15,000 troops to the US border

Source: CNN

Mexico has deployed almost 15,000 troops to the US-Mexico border, according to the country's Secretary of Defense Luis Sandoval.

"In the northern part of the country, we have deployed a total of almost 15,000 troops composed of National Guard elements and military units," Sandoval announced today in Cancun.

Approximately 2,000 National Guard members have already been deployed to Mexico's southern border with Belize and Guatemala, he noted, adding to the 4,500 troops already spread across the area. Many migrants begin their journey in Central America and even further south, passing through Mexico on their way toward the United States.

The deployments come after renewed pressure from the Trump administration on Mexico to help slow migration flows northward. Mexico, however, has also called on the United Nations and the United States to help with the monumental task.

"Migration is not a crime, it is an administrative responsibility," Sandoval said.

We will definitely see less refugees reach our country after this.

It will be hard to tell if 1500 or 15,000 troops make a difference. I'm sure Trump will use the drop in migrants to his advantage, true or not.

During the late 60s there were a lot of guys joining the guard..to avoid going to viet nam..

After a few months of basic, the obligation was once a year a 2 week stint back at the
base...And feedback from friends..it was one big party...

Doubtful the mexican guard is any different..May they party hardy and let their brothers and
sisters cross over....fuck stumpy..

I think per the article, that Secretary Sandoval's remarks about the legality of migration, and an administrative responsibility that Mexico does not intend to match any part the Trump administration's brutality. Political sentiment in Mexico opposes Trump's policies and racism. Anyway, Trump is always seems pacified with any publicity. The only thing that will happen with all of this is that families with deployed national guard troop members will benefit from the additional pay.

who probably think this is a good idea. I was speaking with a few last week who think MEXICO should build a wall on its southern border.
I was aghast. But then again, racism in Mexico can be just as virulent as here.

These "15000" troops would be better used to stop the flow INTO Mexico to start with.

Heard a similar sentiment from a Mexican citizen that I know through someone. From what I can tell he's pretty affluent so I don't know if that is a good gauge of the country as a whole though.

Just stay in their own countries and die by violence, or starvation? If you want to stave off the flood, use these resources to improve conditions in their countries.
