A lot or Trump supporters had multi-years of right-wing brainwashing behind them prior to Trump. And, hard right-wing media painted President Obama as the devil incarnate for his entire term. So, they were more than ready for their savior. Doesn't seem to matter who the anointed one is - they will support him or her to the death.

The ones I know appear to be on some sort of drug and it's pitiful to witness, similar to the Jim Jones and Branch Davidian cults. Not at all like your cartoon, most I know are quite intelligent and skilled but missed the boat on learning humility, how government works, and world history. The majority are dedicated but fake Christians.
