Agriculture secretary: Farmers 'are one of the casualties' of Trump's trade war

Washington (CNN) - Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue acknowledged this week that farmers are getting hurt by President Donald Trump's trade war, but expressed optimism that a deal would be struck with China by the end of the year.

American farmers "are one of the casualties here with trade disruption," Perdue told CNN's Vanessa Yurkevich in an exclusive interview.

"We knew going in that when you flew the penalty flag on China, the retaliation, if it came, would be against the farmer," he added.

US soybean, corn, and wheat growers have been battling tariffs from China for nearly a year now. Beijing imposed those duties in retaliation to tariffs put on Chinese products by the Trump administration.

From being stuck paying for trump's failed trade policies, and having to pay higher prices for goods. trump paid off farmers with billions of our money driving the deficit even higher, and it will cause inflation to spike upwards, while the farmers are screwed now because they're losing markets that will not be regained for quite a while. trump failed by doing this, and the numbers prove it. He'll deny any responsibility for it, just like this Iran war threats driving up oil prices and us getting stuck with even higher gasoline prices. He's a failure unless you want to believe a professional con artist, and serial liar.

It is difficult for me to have very much sympathy for these folks. They watch FOX and turn into the hatred radio show propagandists and are convinced that any Republican, regardless of their lack of qualifications or total lack of moral fiber is infinitely better than any Democrat. They have been convinced that Democrats are immoral, unpatriotic evil beings and only they are the true Americans.

channels, pricing, etc. for sales of US produce, grains, etc. Once the Chinese stopped buying from us, they formed, quite easily, new channels for the very same products from a variety of countries eager to do business in the absence of US cooperation.

The point, as driven home by an actual farmer, was once those links were broken, they would stay broken perhaps forever.

How could in my mind the Chinese government ever trust that madman in the Oval Office again?

Missouri reaches $4.4 billion trade agreement with China
By CHRIS BLANK ~ The Associated Press
Tuesday, October 25, 2011
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon said Monday the state has reached an agreement to sell $4.4 billion worth of products to China for the next three years starting in 2012.

Nixon said the deal between the state Department of Economic Development and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade emphasizes agricultural products and would boost Missouri exports to China by more than $1 billion over three years. The Democratic governor said international trade is important for improving Missouri's economy.

"Missouri businesses and farmers have and sell the products needed to feed and fuel and clothe the world," Nixon said. "Missouri truly helps keep the global economy moving forward, so we always look for opportunities to compete and win in the economy of the future, and exports are a key part of that."
