Omar stops traffic with impromptu news conference blasting Trump

In a chaotic moment outside the Capitol, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) — trailed by a mob of cameramen and reporters — stopped in the middle of Independence Avenue, shut down two lanes of traffic and gave an impromptu news conference responding to Trump supporters who chanted at President Trump's rally Wednesday that she should leave the country.

"I am not [scared for my safety]. What I'm scared for is the safety for people who share my identity,” Omar told a gaggle of journalists on Thursday.

"This is not about me. This is about fighting for what this country should be and what it deserves to be."

CNN's Manu Raju recorded video of reporters asking questions to Omar.

Her remarks came a day after Trump attacked four freshman Democratic congresswomen of color during a rally in North Carolina on Wednesday night. As Trump singled out Omar, the crowd began chanting “send her back!” — a nod to Trump’s earlier comments that the four minority women should “go back” to their own countries..........................................

Independence Avenue is between the Capitol and the offices of House members. The two buildings are connected by a tunnel so that people going between the two can avoid traffic and today, the oppressive heat.

I wouldn't have gone outside today for anything. I mean, if you don't count work.

I hope they all do.

What gets me is that "send them back" is different than "leave it". Both are horrendous, unAmerican and dangerous but the crowd's chant it even worse. Sending legal residents out of the country is sadistic since this implies that the govt can decide which citizens get to stay and which they should kick out of the country. The moron's message of "leave it" puts the action on the resident (free will to leave). Sending anyone away is NO FREE WILL! Putin is thrilled.

It should be paid for by tRump himself too. He created this. I also hope that if anyone make a move on any of them that they are standing right next to the racist rapist and the person misses them and gets him instead. Wouldn't that be ironic.
