Schuette appeals dismissal of lawsuit against U.S. birth-control mandate

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette announced today he has filed an appeal in a religious liberty lawsuit he filed earlier this year against the Obama administration over its birth control mandate in health coverage.

The lawsuit was filed by Schuette's office in January on behalf of seven states, including Michigan, two Catholic groups, and two individuals. They said the mandate from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services would violate the rights of religious groups like Catholics, whose faith says using contraception is a sin.

The appeal -- made Friday - comes after a federal judge in Nebraska, Warren Urbom, dismissed the lawsuit in July.

“Religious liberty is America’s first freedom,” Schuette said today. “Any rule, regulation, or law that forces faith-based institutions to provide services that violate their free exercise of religion is a flat-out violation of the First Amendment.”

Or help in rebuilding a burn down mosque and make sure it does not happen again? Or help to make sure the mosque in Murfreesboro, Tn gets built without city council and citizen obstruction? Or are you just for some sunday Christians freedom of religion rights? If the faith based institution operates in America why should it not follow the laws, like they do in 26 states that already have these laws. I sorry your god is so weak that you and others have to defend it. My God is strong and knows that world will be the world and keeps a hands off approach, except when required and that is seldom. 200 nations on this planet and America is the only one God is helping/condemning/reviewing/whatever? Many times lately I feel like I live in blinded by faith teahadist country that is on the verge of obscurity. You and your followers will make it so. Sorry DU about the rant, my cup is overflowing with their selfishness.
