RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) A man faces charges of carrying a concealed handgun into North Carolina's legislative building, which this year implemented airport-style security measures for people seeking to interact with lawmakers.
Abraham James Zeiger, 36, of Raleigh was charged with trying to carry the gun into the building on Wednesday, police records show. He sought to enter the building to speak to his legislator and didn't realize he was carrying the gun, attorney Emily Gibson said in an email Friday.
"It is unfortunate that any malice be attributed to such an upstanding citizen who merely made an oversight," Gibson wrote.

Zeiger was stopped by officers who spotted a suspicious item as his bag passed through an X-ray scanner, The News & Observer of Raleigh reported . Officers found a 9 mm handgun and two magazines, each loaded with 15 bullets, General Assembly Police Chief Martin Brock told the newspaper.

(25,873 posts)Don't those people think that everyone should be allowed to own and carry whatever guns they want? Why should the legislature be exempt?

(57,144 posts)happening. How does one forget a hand-gun and two magazines with 30 rounds of ammo? There was something on his mind when he purposely packed that into a briefcase he was planning to take into a statehouse.

(57,144 posts)I had a friend in Akron who had a black powder Colt Navy revolver for 'home protection'. I asked him how effective that would be because of the long process to reload. He told me that if he needed more than six rounds, he was going to end up dead anyways.
We need at the very least low capacity clips with no loop hole laws to enforce it.
The NYT had a great article this week on all the work-arounds 2nd party suppliers come up with to circumvent laws on assault weapons.

(8,747 posts)All of them. Along with suppresors, destruct devices. Anything regulated under the NFA of 1934.
All magazines, clips, speedloaders of all types for all weapons.
Only revolvers, bolt action, pump action, single shot, and double barrelled weapons would be legal. With fixed non-removable magazines.
Maximum capacity of 6 rounds.
All steel core ammo, and all ammo that was designed to be used in a semi/full auto weapons.
And I am a FORMER gun owner.
