Jon Stewart to debate Bill O’Reilly in online pay-per-view event

Source: Yahoo News

Jon Stewart and Bill O'Reilly have had numerous memorable clashes on cable television. Now the ideological foes are taking their ongoing tête-à-tête to the Internet.

The "Daily Show" host and Fox News star will take part in a 90-minute debate--"The Rumble in the Air-Conditioned Auditorium"--on October 6 at the Lisner Auditorium on the Washington, D.C., campus of George Washington University.

~snip~

"There is a selective outrage machine here at Fox that pettifogs only when it suits the narrative that suits them," Stewart said.

In 2010, O'Reilly called Stewart's audience on Comedy Central "stoned slackers who love Obama."

Hmmm, "stoned slackers who love Obama."?

I'm not usually a fan of pay per view presentations, but I may make an exception for this one.

The refusal of respected Liberal celebrities to go for the jugular when addressing the rat bastards on the right. They'll go only so far and then pull punches.

Its like they feel intimidated. The fact is we really don't know what is going on behind the scenes. But from the actions I've seen from Jon Stewart and even Bill Maher I feel very certain they've been read a set of rules by their bosses. Lines they must not cross or will get thrown off the air for good.

I can't remember the name of that specific party that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert had on the Washington Mall a couple years ago but it was far too mild an affair. You remember, they got up and sang Cat Stevens "Peace Train" tune. My bad "Yusef Islam" Sorry!

They going as far as accusing not just the Conservatives but Liberals of being uncivil too. As if those who merely care about preserving life on the planet (as we know it) are somehow as mean, aggressive and foolish as the tea baggers and nutters on the extreme right. This doesn't play in my book.

When someone steps on my foot with sharp high heels I will scream. This doesn't make me "uncivil".

But like yourself I will watch Jon Stewart debate O'Reilly. If only to see if he's shaving points off the game.

In basketball, as well as other sports, a star player can play well, may even set records and still throw the game to the opposition. Or at least help the Mob who threatened/bribed him to win the point spread.

Methinks at times we're being had. But again i still love Jon Stewart. At times he's the only friend in the media I can count on.

And he's not really "in the media". He's a comedian lol.

a few years back.

Stewart handed Tucker Carlson his ass publicly, and that was the end of Carlson's show.

CNN has ended its relationship with the conservative commentator Tucker Carlson and will shortly cancel its long-running daily political discussion program, "Crossfire," the new president of CNN, Jonathan Klein, said last night.

Mr. Klein specifically cited the criticism that the comedian Jon Stewart leveled at "Crossfire" when he was a guest on the program during the presidential campaign. Mr. Stewart said that ranting partisan political shows on cable were "hurting America."

Mr. Klein said last night, "I agree wholeheartedly with Jon Stewart's overall premise." He said he believed that especially after the terror attacks on 9/11, viewers are interested in information, not opinion.

"You know what's interesting, though? You're as big a dick on your show as you are on any show!

And then Colbert stood three feet from George W. Bush and proceeded to to ream him a new sphincter. And not only Bush, but the entire administration AND THE PRESS CORPS.

Yeah, Jon and Stephen can be nice guys who try to poke gentle fun and make genuine bi-partisan gestures, but they are quite vicious when provoked.

But wow, I think I would pay to see that. It should be good. O'Reilly always acts like they have this private running joke when he is on Stewart's show so it should be interesting to have Stewart really go for the jugular. I think BillO will lose it. I hope Jon brings his bodyguards.

You go up against a professional comedian, you are going to get made fun of. Stewart will make O'Reilly look like a drunk heckler.

Expect some excuse for BillO to cancel at the last minute.

chosen and 'ad libs' prescreened. Jon's employee Colbert is doing similar gigs around with Cardinal Dolan, the anti gay cleric from that chruch with all the child abuse. Colbert says the hate monger is 'a light hearted and funny guy, just like me' when selling tickets for this new income stream.

gigs with Cardinal Dolan, promoting him as a lightherated, funny guy, a comic wit just like Steve. Of course Dolan and O'Reilley are both huge bigots and hate mongers, but Jon and Stephen see them as another income stream for Jon and Stephen.

What's the saying about wrestling with a pig in the mud. You both get filthy but only the pig likes it?

This is pointless. Sure, Jon will eat him alive, and it will provide much fodder for his shows in days to come. But it's a waste of time as a substantive event. And it does a disservice to Jon as simply an entertainment event.

I used to actually not totally despise Bill O'Reilly way back when, but my opinion of him has changed during past five years or so. Before, at least to me, he seemed like someone I may have disagreed with, but at least he would explain his standpoint and how he came to the conclusions. I don't know if he changed or if I changed, but now he just comes off as an arrogant douche who thinks just 'cause he says something it's true....

Anyway, I've always enjoyed watching Jon Stewart debate him and others like him.

saying to him on his show in 2006 “I have the feeling about 60 percent of what you say is crap” and then in 2009 “I think of you as a goon. I think you’re too smart to believe what you say.”

Dave basically thinks he's just a greedy SOB that will say anything for money. I kind of agree. I think that most of those right wing pundits are the same. They don't have any moral compass. They just follow the money. And eventually they may start to actually believe they are providing a service, that they are filling a need that wouldn't be done if they weren't there. And in a way they are right because, thankfully so, there is not too many others that spout such extreme balderdash.

Someone on DU posted a few years ago about a chance sighting of Dennis Miller at an airport, forget who. I'm paraphrasing but they said they shouted out "Asshole!" to him, and he turned to him/her and smiled and said "Yeah but they pay me very well to be an asshole"

I can't wait for this. Stewart is a master and O'Reilly is only held together by his own bloated sense of self-importance.
I wonder if they will forever be enemies after this as Al Franken became after he eviscerated Bill in another one-on-one.
