Trump Spends Labor Day Tweeting, Golfing as Hurricane Dorian Threatens U.S.

President Donald Trump didnt have anything listed on his public schedule for Monday. And its a good thing because he had a busy day of golfing and tweeting, all while one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes on record was on its way toward the United States. Trump arrived at his Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia shortly after 10 a.m. ......................but press secretary Stephanie Grisham insisted the president received hourly updates on Hurricane Dorian.
Earlier in the day, Trump spent much of the morning tweeting, patting himself on the back for the economy while blasting political enemies and the media.......................................
.....................Monday was not the first time Trump hit the links on Labor Day weekend. The president also left Camp David Saturday to go to his golf course in Sterling, Virginia. The visits to the golf course are particularly surprising since Trump canceled a trip to Poland that was scheduled for the weekend so he could stay in the United States and monitor Dorian. London Mayor Sadiq Khan mocked Trump telling Politico that the U.S. president was clearly busy dealing with a hurricane out on the golf course.

Let me guess. Cat5 that he never heard of was too big for his nuke idea. Always an excuse, always a way off the hook, never responsible for anything, not even his crazy ideas.

(6,212 posts)shut up... shut up ... shut up... I just can't take it anymore. I wouldn't even mind so much if his tweets weren't so damn stupid and senseless. How many more times do we have to hear how wonderful he is and everyone else is wrong. Our country deserves better.

(745 posts)just what practical thing should a president actually be doing when there's a hurricane a couple days out from the US coast? There are agencies that handle this sort of stuff (ie FEMA) that have their own directors and layers of experts/management. What's the president's (not a disaster preparedness expert) responsibility? I definitely don't want a president with no natural-disaster background directing natural-disaster preparedness even if they weren't dumb as a rock as our current president is. Let the experts decide what needs to happen.
Like I guess you need to be available to the relevant agencies to authorize movement of resources that they ask for that they can't approve without you but you don't need to be sitting in a bunker or at a specific desk to do that, you can take that cell phone call from anywhere.
If the government (with it's 1 million employees or whatever) needs to rely on the president to babysit every crisis, the government is truly non-functional.

(7,447 posts)that are usually split in a lot of other govs...head of government, and head of state. The latter role is more about optics, and appearances (think royalty). He fucks up both roles, but the latter one who just obliterates.
100% agree with this response.

(2,114 posts)Republicans make us taxpayers foot the bills for a billionaire to golf when he should be on the job helping the nation cope with this monster hurricane. And then they smirk, adding insult to injury. I hope my fellow taxpayers remember this when they enter the ballot box.
