Badrun Khan to challenge Ocasio-Cortez in Democratic primary

Source: The Hill

BY TAL AXELROD - 09/18/19 02:06 PM EDT

A local activist in Queens announced a primary challenge against New York progressive heavyweight Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) on Wednesday.

Badrun Khan, whose website describes her as an activist who has “spent her entire life fighting for justice, equality and fairness in her community,” says she is fighting for “REAL Results... Not Empty Promises,” suggesting how she views Ocasio-Cortez’s progressive platform.

Khan lists a handful of policy positions on her website but doesn't touch on top progressive priorities.

She favors expanding Social Security and Medicare benefits and ensuring health care “is made available for all and that those who have existing coverage can choose to keep what they currently have.” She stops short of declaring support for any variant of “Medicare for All.”

I kid you not. I drop in on another forum where both repugs and dems duke it all out. The posts that the repugs make about AOC are hilarious. She and her squad of commie socialists are gaining ground and soon will take over the nation and turn everybody into collectivist slaves - OMG!

So maybe the repugs are funding Badrun Khan (is that a real name?)

Whatever. I hope AOC keeps her seat if for no other reason than that I love seeing grown men from the tRump cult quiver at the very mention of her name.

The Drumpfs changed their last name to sound less German.

The best one is that I have a standard Biblical name shared by a US president and several great Americans but people think it's fake because my skin is brown.

I certainly didn't mean to "mock" ANY group of Americans. But if you think about it, the name of Badrun (Bad Run) for a politician can't help but make a person laugh a little the first time they see it. Plus, I like AOC. I think she's cool, but if someone else from any ethnic group from A - Z primaries her, I guess one can't object to her getting a dose of own medicine.

Perhaps your spending too much time on a site with republican posters.
I know nothing about the candidate and couldn’t care less who Brooklyn elects so long as they are a Democratic Candidate. But your questioning that name has no place on DU.

Various articles give little chance to Fernando Cabrera and Badrun Khan who are seeking to challenge AOC for her seat. Some speculate that the challengers have ulterior reasons for running. To gain exposure for other endeavors for example.

It also appears that Fernando Cabrera and Badrun Khan aren't having much success raising money.

AOC on the other hand has a considerable war chest and it's interesting that 81% of that came from contributions of $200 or less.

Your comment:

" It is only fair that she get a dose of her own medicine."

What dose does she get if her challengers pose no threat to her at all? Since your post made in September, there is very little news about AOC's challengers.

"Badrun Khan supports increasing Social Security benefits in areas that that have a significantly higher cost of Living like the 14th Congressional District, following a concept set forth in current Federal pay system. "

https://badrunforcongress.com/issues

Many people tell her stuff:

""I actually care about what happens to not only the people who live there but beyond," Badrun Khan, a community activist running as a Democrat, told E&E News via email.

"Until I came along and called her out on TV, she was barely in the district — and I heard this from the people and the local elected officials. Now that she is being challenged, she shows up a lot more.""

https://www.eenews.net/stories/1061733737

Reading news about her, it doesn't appear that Mz. Khan has gained much ground since she announced her candidacy back in September
