Some Florida teachers can now carry guns inside the classroom

Source: CBS News

Starting Tuesday, a controversial law will allow some teachers in Florida to carry guns inside the classroom. The bill was initially passed in response to the Parkland school shooting last year where 17 students and staff were killed.

We may never have an exact number of how many teachers will carry weapons because they're supposed to remain anonymous for their safety. School districts are allowed to opt out of arming teachers, and two of the state's largest school districts including Miami-Dade and Orlando have elected to do so, but a handful of smaller school districts are all in.

Students in Bay County Schools – located along the Florida Panhandle – may be walking into a classroom Tuesday morning where the teacher is carrying a concealed handgun.

"Everybody wants to know 'How do we prevent it?' How can we stop it. We don't look at it as we want more guns, we look at it as we want more protection," said Bay County Schools Superintendent Bill Husfelt.

We've already had teachers/staff leave their guns in bathrooms or otherwise unsecured where others could get to them.

I have no doubt that these classroom "vigilantes" are going to panic if faced with any kind of threat. Hell, we see this with supposedly well-trained LEO and certainly in the military when faced with a chaotic gun battle or threat of same.

How many innocents will have to die to discount the ridiculous premise that this is a "good" thing?

Student finds out teacher has gun and overpowers the teacher and starts to shoot the people in the room.

In a class of small children, one finds the gun and picks it up out of curiosity and accidentally pulls the trigger either killing or injuring themselves or others in the room.

A teacher who is a gun humping asshole goes nuts one day and starts shooting children and staff.

The shooting of colored people and the wrong religion according to the teacher says that a particular student was going for a gun while actually getting the book they were told to get out of their backpack.

What are the "good" teachers who have guns going to do to their teacher friend who is a "good" gun carrier?

This is going to go bad very soon.

I can imagine the parent/teacher conferences. Mom and Dad come in with a couple of beers in them, don't like the stuff you told them about their kid and pull out a weapon. The poor teacher tries to get hers, etc. I bet they have crappy health benefits for treating the teacher's injuries too.
