Virginia abortion laws upheld requiring ultrasound, waiting period, doctor-only procedures

Source: Washington Post

A federal judge in Virginia has upheld the state’s law requiring women to have an ultrasound at least 24 hours before having an abortion and a separate measure requiring physicians to perform the procedure.

Abortion rights activists and providers had challenged Virginia laws they said unnecessarily restrict access, particularly for poor women, and make it difficult and expensive for clinics to operate.

After an eight-day trial in federal court in Richmond, the question for the judge was whether regulations affecting health-care providers, facilities and patients present a substantial, unconstitutional obstacle for women seeking abortions.

In a 67-page ruling issued Monday, U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson retained the waiting period that requires most women to make two trips — one for an ultrasound and another for the abortion. “The court recognizes that the waiting period following the ultrasound adds a logistical complexity to an existing myriad of hardships faced by those with limited resources and support networks,” Hudson wrote. But he was not persuaded that the law “amounts to a substantial obstacle preventing women’s access to abortion in Virginia.”

That was an absurd finding, IHMO, and somewhat contradictory.

A warrior against women! Shameful excuse for a judge. That's bias, not law, again, IMHO.

Masquariding as secular law. Just order the pill over the internet. F* ck Evangilicals and the cult of the unborn.

Women need to check out the abortion pill(s) on the internet.

Is what we are trying to avoid. Don't be surprised if the Republicans will classify that as murder next in your state (if they have not already done so).

This is not the 1960 where only doctors can provide a safe abortion or even proof of a pregnancy. The abortion pill is very safe. It can be prescribed by a doctor in another country. But really doesn't have to be. It is so safe that in some countries plan C can be obtained without a prescription over the counter.

Plan C is so much safer than what was ever available before. We are not talking about rusty hangers and back ally abortions. We are talking about a pill that is proven as safe as in a clinic. Check out Women on the web.

And yeah the Evangelicals and the cult of the unborn are pushing their religious doctrine as secular law but of course it is not. And they will pass their fake laws to punish women. But that doesn't mean women have to follow these unconstitutional laws.

Most women today could find out they are pregnant and have an abortion while never leaving their home and no one would know. It would be real tough if not impossible to prosecute all these women or to even prove what happened.

It's sad women are being forced into the shadows again if they don't want to be ruled over by a bunch of selfish Christian fools. But that's where we are.

Thank the gods that we are so medically advanced that most anyone can still do what they want with their body despite religious purity laws.

What I can't remember is: Did the frog die, or did the rabbit ovulate, or was it vice-versa.

What I do remember was the number of horror stories that we heard daily, that is unless you were a rich child sent for a study abroad of two weeks in one of the Scandinavian countries...........

Everyone knew someone who had died or been permanently injured from those horrible restrictions on women's rights.

But now they are trying to put the toothpaste back into the tube. It's never going to work. Science has made Evangilical doctrine against women's bodies useless to a large extent.

It's a very safe pill and can be ordered over the internet very cheaply along with pregnancy test kits....in case Evangelicals decide to remove them from over the counter too. They will mail it overnight. Check out Women on web. It has a lot of info.
