House committees subpoena Pentagon chief and acting director of Office of Management and Budget

Source: Washington Post

House investigators subpoenaed documents from the Department of Defense and Office of Management and Budget on Monday about the withholding of military aid to Ukraine as the Democratic-led impeachment inquiry barreled forward.

The move came after Republicans stepped up their attacks on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) after late-night tweets from President Trump suggesting that she should be removed from office, not him.

A State Department official declined to appear Monday morning at a planned deposition by House committees seeking to learn more about Trump’s efforts to press the leader of Ukraine to investigate former vice president Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden at a time when U.S. military assistance had been suspended.

On Sunday, the attorney representing the whistleblower who first raised an alarm about their July call said that “multiple” whistleblowers have come forward.

BREAKING: The three committee chairmen said they had sent subpoenas to Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper and OMB acting director Russell Vought.

“The Committees are investigating the extent to which President Trump jeopardized national security by pressing Ukraine to interfere with our 2020 election and by withholding military assistance provided by Congress to help Ukraine counter Russian aggression, as well as any efforts to cover up these matters,” the lawmakers said.

Signing the letter were Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), Oversight Chairman Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.) and Foreign Affairs Chairman Eliot L. Engel (D-N.Y.).

The dynamics are a bit different now regarding Drumpf vs Nixon but because of the massive proliferation of media outlets ("traditional" and "social" ) talking about this in this era vs 45 years ago, it seems like nothing is getting done... but it is all part of the "sausage-making".
