Retiring GOP Rep. John Shimkus won't support Trump after Syria pullout
Source: Politico
Retiring Republican Rep. John Shimkus is ending his support for President Donald Trump after this weeks withdrawal of U.S. troops from the Syria-Turkey border, calling the move despicable.
The Illinois Republican told St. Louis radio station KMOX on Thursday that after he learned about the withdrawal, he told his own chief of staff to pull my name off the I support Donald Trump list.
Shimkus expanded his comments later Thursday, saying in a statement: While my votes will continue to support the presidents domestic policy agenda, because of this terrible foreign policy decision I asked that my name be removed from his campaigns official list of supporters.
Shimkus joins a wave of Republicans who have denounced Trump for essentially leaving Syrian Kurds to fend for themselves against the Turkish military. Even close allies of the president, like Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wy.), the third-ranking Republican in the House, criticized the presidents move, especially after Turkish forces began an incursion into northern Syria on Wednesday.

(47,463 posts)2. With all the horrible things the man
has done in said the past few years, Shimkus supported him until now? I know those who are leaving office feel free to some extent to speak up now, but that is much too little too late. How could anyone with any conscience condone Trump's behavior? If political office is more important than your soul, you are just as bad as Trump.

...and vote with the Dems for the rest of your miserable term in office.

There IS no "domestic policy agenda" other than campaign rallies, golfing, photo-ops at fake wall-building locations, and keeping the KFC flowing, so that means he will be doing nothing.
