Adam Schiff says whistleblower may not testify in impeachment probe

Source: Politico

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff indicated Sunday that the whistleblower at the heart of Democrats’ impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump may not testify over concerns about that person’s safety.

Schiff’s remarks come after Trump has dramatically escalated his attacks on the whistleblower and repeatedly called for the official to be unmasked. Trump’s unrelenting barrage has spurred worries from Democrats that congressional Republicans may try to reveal that person’s identity — conceivably endangering his or her safety — at the behest of the president.

Schiff (D-Calif.) said the whistleblower’s testimony might not be needed given that a rough transcript of the call with Trump asking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for a “favor” — the centerpiece of the whistleblower’s complaint — is public. In addition, lawmakers have a collected a tranche of damning text messages and witness testimony related to the scandal in the last two weeks.

“Our primary interest right now is making sure that that person is protected. Indeed now there’s more than one whistleblower, that they are protected,” Schiff said on CBS’ “Face the Nation“ on Sunday.

He wanted to be first to sneak over to the WH, with names. Traitors in the gop need to be exposed, after removal from office. Where does he find time to do his job, considering all the lawsuits he has going on?

And this isn't the only example. Dangling pardons is another. Was always disappointed Mueller didn't have a section on witness tampering because he complained bitterly that the only reason he wouldn't cite Trump on collusion was that nobody would talk and provide the hard evidence, including documents, phone logs, texts, etc.

Are we really going to surrender to the third-world tactics of a grandiose bully and his cult followers? Can he be deposed privately with just attorneys present, and the deposition made public immediately? This is deeply unsatisfying and immoral, not to mention unAmerican. This is the "not keeping" part of the quote about "a Republic, if you can keep it."

and moves to a "Trial" in the Senate, will Moscow Mitch be willing to protect witnesses? These patriot Americans are risking much.

We must first impeach, whenever Speaker Pelosi decides to do so. It is in Democrats and America's best interests for Congress to conduct the investigations at a pace that allows citizens to hear and digest. This transcends party and self interests. imo

in our country right now. Really? We’re compelled to basically hide a real American patriot from our own President for fear for his/her life. Until now, only the wildest fiction would make this imaginable.

the Syria thing — we aren’t/won’t be any better than Nazi Germany. We are being orchestrated by two diabolical mad men — tRump and Putin who both aim to rule the world.

tRump is no dummy despite what everyone thinks. He is following Hitler’s play book. He is also willingly compromised by Putin. However, in my view, he knows it, but thinks he can beat Putin in the end using our (his, in his mind) military and economic might — once he has established firm, unassailable control over all three branches of our government.

I’m convinced that is his plan. tRump is and always has been a gambler, taking enormous risks and getting away with them. This is his ultimate gambit. He hopes to rule the world — as did Hitler. It’s a mad man’s pursuit.

With all he has done, Trump should have been removed from office and retired to Mar-a-Lago months ago. But he’s still sitting in the Oval Office, lying through his teeth and making one bad decision after another. The blood of many dead Kurds is now on his hands and those of his Republican sycophants. I shudder to think what he will do next that will cause chaos and destruction. I lost faith long ago that he would be removed. Our only hope is 2020 IF the Russians and Republicans do not steal that one too.

If the whistle blower doesn't testify, all we will hear is the turd screaming SEE, IT IS ALL A HOAX! Over and over and over... till many believe it.

The truth shouldn't hide. If we can't ensure the safety of our patriots we should go ahead and throw in the towel. We manage to do it daily in the criminal justice system.

You can be damn sure the republicans could manage the security situation.

There may be plenty of corroboration as well as new evidence that the testimony from original WB is no longer essential.

As someone said above, the parade of witnesses now coming forward may provide a "smoking artillery range", and Trump's witness intimidation of original WB will be just one more article of impeachment.

Pardons in one pocket, and threats of physical harm to witnesses in the other? And we fold like a cheap tent?
And a steadfast refusal to cooperate with subpoenas, the compliance of which can be tied up for years in the courts.

I don't really see any hope for justice in the US at this rate.
