Sen. Van Hollen torches Trump's Syria response: 'For God's sakes, what are they waiting for?'

Source: politico

Sen. Chris Van Hollen said senior administration officials “look ridiculous” while U.S.-allied Kurdish fighters are slaughtered as part of the Turkish offensive.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) admonished President Donald Trump for failing to punish Turkey for its invasion of northern Syria, asserting Sunday that senior administration officials “look ridiculous” while U.S.-allied Kurdish fighters are slaughtered as part of the offensive.

“They're asking Turkey, ‘Oh, please, please stop what you're doing,’” Van Hollen told host Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday” of the Trump administration’s response.

“That is nothing. So, that's why you're going to see a strong bipartisan response from the Congress,” he continued.

Van Hollen and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) have emerged as two of the fiercest congressional critics of Trump’s decision last weekend to allow the Turkish military to enter into Syria, where it has engaged the Syrian Kurdish militias that helped American forces quash Islamic State forces in the region.

The senators released a bill Wednesday that threatens a series of economic sanctions against Turkey for its incursion, and Van Hollen claimed Sunday that “momentum is building for the Congress to act” amid the dayslong Turkish assault.

“Congress is going to first call upon the president to do the right thing, but since we can’t count on that, we will have this bipartisan legislation.”

- Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.)

3. I have even absolutely ZERO evidence of Turkey doing anything but attacking the Kurds in Syria.

They got permission from Trump and went in with ONLY ONE objective and that was to kill the allies who fought for us against ISIS.

Just fuck you, Donald.

12. Trump doesn't have a hotel in Istanbul ...

It's not his hotel, he just collects a licensing fee for the use of his name.

There's no evidence I'm aware of that's come to light that suggests Trump gave the green light to Erdogan for anything related to this Hotel.

These claims are pure speculation and really shouldn't be promoted as fact, IMHO.

Until some other personal gain for trump is in play, I'd continue to speculate.

I read your posts. Enjoy most of them, respect you. But WHEN has trumpie ever done anything that did NOT financially benefit him in some way ? I suspected that this was just another example of him ignoring the laws and enriching himself.

I must admit, I thought I had read that there was a clear connection between him and that hotel that bears his name in Istanbul. If that is not true, I regret the post.

I still remember when Erdogan was in DC, at the WH, when thugs who had accompanied him, attacked (with more than their closed fists) protesters across from the Turkish Embassy. NOT ONE of those thugs was so much as questioned by DC police and trumpie did NOT even stand up for those American citizens beaten by the thugs. To me, that signals that he is willing to bow and kowtow to Erdogan for SOME reason.

And now, as he has consigned the Kurds to . . . I can't even go there. As a retired Sailor, it sickens me that the US is deserting these brave men who have been our allies in many past battles, including the Second World War.

P/S I try not to post or repeat falsehoods. It serves no purpose in these times to reflect the echo chamber of confirmation bias. It weakens us, divides us, diminishes us.

it's just not 'his' in the technical sense.

To be clear, I have NO DOUBT that fucker is acting in his own interest in this case ... but I think it's 'bigger' ... than a Hotel ... whether it's 'his', or just has his name on it.

I wanna know the REAL reason ... I'm very skeptical it's just the Hotel. Fair Enough?

Peace and Love back atcha, enjoy your posts as well Haggis

Please excuse my ignorance, and I apologize for asking something so graphic, but that's what I just read on another site. Does anyone know if that is true?
