US proposed helping North Korea build tourist area amid nuclear talks: report
Source: The Hill
The U.S. reportedly offered a long-term plan to help North Korea build a tourist area in its country as part of denuclearization talks in Stockholm earlier this month.
South Korean newspaper Hankook Ilbo reported Saturday that the U.S. proposed plans for developing the Kalma area, though didn't say how the North Korean delegation responded to the proposal, according to Bloomberg.
Bloomberg noted that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has been trying to get a resort project completed in the Wonsan-Kalma coastal area for some time.
North Korean politician Pak Pong Ju reportedly visited the area in August to encourage workers to make the area a scenic spot on the east coast.

(3,335 posts)Kim should build some Condos along the coastline. L'il Kim just smiled and nodded and Trump said that he was serious.
It wouldn't surprise me to see a Trump Tower on the North Korean peninsula in the near future. I wouldn't stay there, nor would i even visit there, but I'm sure if Trump can find someone else to front the cost of building a highrise on the NK peninsula and put Trump's name on it, it will happen.
Of course I'd imagine that the South Korean peninsula coastline would probably be just as scenic and beautiful, and you wouldn't have to be concerned with the nutjob neighbor on the other side of the fence.

(3,299 posts)I've looked at some of the reports of what was offered in the working level meeting at Stockholm and they're not very clear. The reports seem to originate from a Japanese source, which was then translated and reported in a Korean newspaper, and then reported in English. In included some of the same nonstarters that were in Bolton's stillborn proposal in Hanoi.
I won't bother repeating them. The offer as described was amateurish, and if it was representative of the quality of preparation by Stephen Biegun for the meeting it was a serious disappointment. In fact it was so amateurish, it was hard to believe the report was accurate but sadly it probably was. The issue is and always has been the nature of the negotiating process and how it will go forward. The US cannot get John Bolton's defective "one bundle" approach out of his head.
The idea that North Korea is interested in having the US develop its economy is absurd. In fact, I'd suggest it's the last thing they want. The South Koreans and Chinese have been asking the US to get out of the way of their economic projects in North Korea for years.
Finally the State Department didn't "refute" anything. They rebutted the North Korean assertions with vague assertions. That's fine, I don't expect real diplomacy to be negotiated in the media.

It is brilliant, stable, and GENIUS. Just ask him.
"He" don't need no stinkin' planning. (poor grammar intended)
