Maria Butina: Russian agent to be released from US prison

Source: BBC

Maria Butina was sentenced to 18 months earlier this year after admitting to a single count of conspiracy, but was given credit for time already served.

The 30-year-old gun activist tried to infiltrate the National Rifle Association (NRA) to influence policy.

Russian officials say she is expected to arrive in Moscow on Saturday.

Butina will be released from a low-security prison in Tallahassee and transferred to a migration centre in the city of Miami to be deported.

Putin's choice. Of course, Republican grifters are delighted to see her return home.

She got out of jail early. Time served and all, but these are unreasonable times, and given the amount of money flowing around this mess, who knows.

And even if she's kept her mouth shut so far, nothing keeps a mouth shut like deep dark water

I deplore everything about her and what she's done. But I wouldn't want to be in her shoes once she's repatriated.

She has been incarcerated since July 2018. Her sentence of 18 months included an offset for time already served and thus she's served 15 months. The sentence was shortened under federal sentencing guidelines that shorten sentences based on good behavior.
