Judge rules DOJ must turn over Mueller grand jury material to House Democrats
Source: Politico
A federal judge has ruled that the Justice Department must turn over former special counsel Robert Mueller's grand jury evidence to the House Judiciary Committee, a victory for Democrats in their effort to investigate whether President Donald Trump obstructed the long-running Russia probe.
Beryl Howell, the chief federal judge in Washington ordered the DOJ to provide by Oct. 30 "[a]ll portions of Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller IIIs Report on the Investigation Into Russian Interference In The 2016 Presidential Election that were redacted pursuant to" grand jury restrictions.
The order also requires the Justice Department to provide "any underlying transcripts or exhibits referenced in the portions of the Mueller Report that were redacted" pursuant to those restrictions.

(129,085 posts)Anything like this can be appealed. They may ask an appeals court for a temp hold on the order to release the materials while they do a full appeal.

(33,982 posts)The DoJ will probably appeal. Trump will probably attempt to shelter the info with Executive privilege. Also probably sue as a separate legal action to block it.
They're going to do everything and anything they can (some sketchy legality, or possibly illegal) to stop it.
Enjoy Trump's long, drawn-out meltdown. It's going to go for a while. This isn't even the impeachment inquiry. Totally separate problem for him.

(14,764 posts)It would be isolated and put on restricted access. Since it's a tactic his lawyers use on phone calls, it has likely been used on the grand jury materials as well. Once classified, muehler and his team couldn't legally keep copies. Copies couldn't be squirelled away in the fbi.
It would be fairly easy to destroy or lose it at that point. Anyone who produces a copy would be arrested and charged.
The only hope is if the grand jury sessions were stenographed and retained by the courts (along with the evidence used to present to them). But there is surely a lot of evidence nobody but muehler had. And which couldn't be reproduced. It's likely lost forever.
