Like Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AL) will not co-sponsor Sen. Lindsey Grahams (R-SC) resolution to condemn the House impeachment investigation.
In an emailed statement sent to TPM on Tuesday, Murkowski said that House Democrats have handled this impeachment inquiry poorly, but echoed almost word-for-word Collins skepticism of the Senate getting involved in House proceedings.
As awful as their process is, the formal impeachment inquiry lies in the House, and its not the Senates role to dictate to the House how to determine their own rules, said the Alaska Republican.
Collins gave a similar reason for not signing the resolution................................

(86,840 posts)signing on to that resolution disqualify all signers from participating in the trial as jurors seeing that this condemnation is submitting an opinion prior to the start of the trial?
If that is possible, that argument should be made and loudly. It would automatically make 50 R senators disqualified and that would leave three of them along with all the Democrats to hold the trial and would insure the removal of the orange POS.
The House and the Senate get to set their own rules, as laid out in Article I, section 5 of the Constitution: "Each House may determine the rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior, and, with the concurrence of two thirds, expel a member. "
House rules do not require an impeachment inquiry to start with a vote of the full chamber, and all the Senate can do is pound sand. Similarly, the the House gets no say in Senate rules governing the impeachment trial.

(26,334 posts)actually your own sides process.
Now if you do not like it then you should have spoken up way back then before your side instituted it but to speak against it now that we are using the same system because you do not like the results suddenly smacks of gross hypocrisy.

(1,864 posts)Here in AK we only get rid of our political royalty through death. See Ted Stevens. Otherwise, republicans are pretty impervious to anything at all. See Corrupt Bastards Club.
Don Young shows up to vote drunk, (when he does show up) makes a general ass out of himself, and shoots off his mouth a lot. Endears himself to the general conservative populace up here. Neither he nor Lisa will be getting voted out anytime soon, so sorry.
This is a tough place to live sometimes, but only for that reason.
