Thankfully most of the places we go have signs saying "no firearms", one steakhouse we love lets them in and they are like "see how big my gun is", proud to be able to show they have small equipment and need a gun to feel masculine. We hardly go there at all anymore. It is a choice we make.

And still gets its share of mass shooters.

There really needs to be a comprehensive study of shooters to learn more about the motives, indicators and what gun laws would have the most effect.

Open carry out not doesn’t seem to really have as much effect as we’d like.

No license, no training necessary, just grab your gun and go. Goes right along with the repeal of auto inspections which are now on the honor system. Soon: Raising the speed limit to 80!

Lots of untrained imbeciles walking around with guns in their pants pockets and open purses. I hate it. There sure are a lot of Shootings at Walmarts across the country and now that they have eliminated cashiers, they corral customers into a one entrance one exit self checkout circle.

As gun violence is normalized in this country it's taking more and more carnage to get us to notice. I'm very fearful that this normalization of gun deaths in the US will keep us from ever passing meaningful gun control legislation.

Wrong demographic, wrong purpose.

If it's Asian gang violence, that reflects badly on a community and doesn't serve the rhetorical goal. And if it's "community" internal, then others are safe.

If it's somebody going after some other particular person--whether at a football game, homecoming party, or game-watch party, suddenly there's less interest. If they're after "John" then the rest of us aren't nearly at the same level of risk.

Last year a girl was shot while her mother was driving on the freeway. It was national news when they were looking for a white guy in a red pickup. When it turned into a case of a black guy who was out after a particular other black guy the story sank like a stone.

Later in your comment you say that when another shooter is found to be black and seeking a black victim, the story “sank like a stone”. Is it your view that stories of black criminals are under-reported?

Family members told KOKH-TV the shooting began as a domestic dispute between a husband and wife, with the husband fatally shooting his wife before killing himself.

that spills beyond the man and woman involved to family, friends, and co-workers.

IOW, violence against women and mass shootings are closely related, but violence against women is still not on the country's front burner.

Duncan resident Aaron Helton, an Army veteran, said he was at the Walmart around 9:45 a.m. when he heard nine shots and saw the gunman, weapon in hand. According to Helton, another man walked up, put a pistol to the gunman’s head and told him to stop shooting. Helton said he saw the shooter was turning the gun on himself and looked away.

Good work on his part.
