AUSTIN -- In a bizarre political blunder, a document laying out the Republican Party of Texass election strategy for the 2020 elections has ended up in the hands of Texas Democrats. Attacking Democratic candidates through websites and mitigating the polarizing nature of President Donald Trump are part of the plan.

The document called a draft for initial discussion by the Texas GOP Party chair was titled Primary/General Election 2020 [Draft] and began showing up in Democratic emails Monday evening.
It includes a target list of 12 statehouse districts, including six in North Texas, that Republicans are aiming to take back in next years elections. Negative attacks through websites, and highlighting diverse Republicans to counter a narrative driven by Democrats about the GOPs lack of diversity are also part of the strategy.

Starting after the Primary, the RPT will generate microsites for negative hits against the Democrat candidates in our twelve target racewe expect each microsite to be roughly $500, the document reads. We will then begin rolling out these websites, prioritizing the races that were within 4% in the 2018 election.

On it, four House Districts in central Texas are listed as targets for Republicans to flip back to GOP control.
Plans also include buying domain names for some of the Democratic candidates, and making sure when people try to search for them online, it redirects them to sites with Republican messaging.
Additionally, the document says the GOP will set up negative attack websites to pop up on the front pages of search engines.
According to a press release from Texas Democrats, the plan was mistakenly emailed out and leaked to freshman House members.

Are they really this incompetent? I'd say it was a ruse, but the talking points (twice) leaked about their impeachment strategy were true to form.

(4,490 posts)Not like they have many smart options. If they didn't do this, they'd be even dumber than we thought. Try to siphon some non-white votes from Democrats, and some common sense 21st century negative online campaigning, with SEO manipulation.
Hopefully any Democrat thinking of running for anything will have been buying up website addresses that have anything to do with their names already (including likely misspellings).
Then it's just old fashioned common sense political TV advertising.
I do believe the GOP in that it's more initial thoughts/incomplete plan than the final plan. No mention of their voter supression tactics, or social media strategy.
