Now we can add "sales". My late husband was the best damn salesman I ever met, and one of his mantras was that good salespeople are NOT good "talkers", but good listeners. Understand reciprocity in the selling process. Yes, I as a seller can make a sale/get the commission, but you as the buyer get something you want, too. Otherwise, you the buyer will take your business elsewhere. On top of that, you the seller are right more often than I the seller am, and I the seller am nothing if you don't come to me looking to buy something. A seller's reputation is what draws those customers in. If you have a lousy reputation, you won't get customers coming into a business to buy things.

My grandfather was a general contractor for over 40 years, and spent his retirement in small-scale ranching. He built and renovated homes for rich and poor and everyone in between. His cattle and chickens were prized for the quality of their meat and eggs. The way he saw it, his word was EVERYTHING--not to his success, but to staying in business at all. If people couldn't depend on his product AND his word, then they would take their business elsewhere. And he couldn't have lived with himself if he'd dealt with his customers like a cheat, a creep or a thug.
