House Republicans release 110-page report defending Trump in impeachment inquiry

Source: CBS News

Washington — House Republicans released a report detailing their conclusions from the initial stages of the impeachment investigation, issuing a staunch defense of President Trump's dealings with Ukraine and accusing Democrats of conducting "an orchestrated campaign to upend our political system."

The 110-page report, written by Republican staffers on the House Intelligence, Foreign Affairs and Oversight Committees, is meant to supplement the Democrats' report on their findings, which members will begin reviewing on Monday evening. Both reports will ultimately be sent to the Judiciary Committee, which is set to begin holding its own hearings this week.

The Republicans' report argues that the evidence collected over nearly two months of private and public testimony does not support the allegations at the center of the impeachment inquiry, which they portray as an attempt to overturn the results of the 2016 campaign.

"The Democrats' impeachment inquiry is not the organic outgrowth of serious misconduct; it is an orchestrated campaign to upend our political system," it says. "The Democrats are trying to impeach a duly elected President based on the accusations and assumptions of unelected bureaucrats who disagreed with President Trump's policy initiatives and processes."

15. Also, "When we impeached Clinton, it wasn't about trying to overturn a duly elected president

because he lied about getting a blowjob. It was about honoring the rule of law. We didn't have a choice -- we were obligated to impeach him."

They attempt to describe non-partisan witnesses into members of their imaginary Deep State. They live in a fact-free universe of their own making. People who have factual information -- including hearing the conversation first hand -- don't count because they weren't elected. (Huh?) No one who isn't a Trump supporter is allowed to testify. (Which is false, since several of the people on their witness list appeared before the committee.)

Under their argument, no president could ever be impeached, no matter how egregious their actions -- like selling out our country for personal gain. If that were true, why did the framers put impeachment in the Constitution? The document is not that many pages, and you can believe that every word of it was argued about at the Constitutional Convention. For example, counting blacks as 3/5th of a person wasn't put there because someone said, "Wouldn't be a hoot to make a Negro count less than a white?" It was a salve to the southern states to get slave owners to sign the document.

If a president can hold office regardless of what he does, then he's a king, and that defeats the whole purpose of declaring independence from England. At least royalty has a sense of noblesse oblige. Trump wants to be a dictator whose every whim is catered to without question. His motto is, "I got mine, f*ck the rest of you." He sees himself as being above and beyond the law, and the Republicans and his supporters are perfectly okay with that.

are they going to pull a lot of shit just for revenge? If a Dem president so much as jaywalks they will call for impeachment because it's all about revenge and tit for tat with them.

in revenge for Nixon.

They never liked that an (R) got removed, so they went after
the 1st target the could find, Bill Clinton.

So yes, the next (D) administration has to walk the straight and narrow,
and not give (R)'s any opportunity for an excuse to impeach.

Having said that, the GOPee does not need a reason, they'll invent one if they have to or even if they don't have to.
