BBG: US and China Move Closer to Trade Deal Despite Heated Rhetoric
Heads-up.
Bloomberg is reporting that Washington and Beijing are making progress towards a trade deal.
It says: The U.S. and China are moving closer to agreeing on the amount of tariffs that would be rolled back in a phase-one trade deal despite tensions over Hong Kong and Xinjiang, people familiar with the talks said, Bloomberg News reports.
Thats not what Donald Trump was suggesting yesterday... perhaps the market slump has unblocked negotiations?

Trade deal hopes boosts markets
In a surprise twist, European stock markets are all rallying.... as hopes of a US-China trade deal grow again.
Every index is up, with France, Italy andGermany rallying by over 1%, after unnamed sources claimed that Donald Trump had painted a too-gloomy picture of negotiations yesterday.
According to these insiders, a deal could still be reached this month.
Bloomberg has the details:
The people, who asked not to be identified, said that U.S. President Donald Trumps comments Tuesday downplaying the urgency of a deal shouldnt be understood to mean the talks were stalling, as he was speaking off the cuff. Recent U.S. legislation seeking to sanction Chinese officials over human-rights issues in Hong Kong and Xinjiang are unlikely to impact the talks, one person familiar with Beijings thinking said.
U.S. negotiators expect a phase-one deal with China to be completed before American tariffs are set to rise on Dec. 15, the people said. Outstanding issues in the talks include how to guarantee Chinas purchases of U.S. agricultural goods and exactly which tariffs to roll back, they added.

(11,885 posts)To get a deal done he can claim is good for us, but in reality it'll show the opposite. That's how he has done over and over again in the past. He'll pr it as a great accomplishment only he could do , but when exposed it will be just another horribly bad deal because of trump. His good is always bad for us. He'll break any deal he makes anyway and China is well aware of that.

(50,950 posts)There will be no trade deal, or at least none that improves the lot of Americans. There will be a big announcement, like with the Korean nukes, and the market will go crazy. Two days later the details will come out, it will be a complete bust, the market will dive and at at that point it will be over, so there will be no ability to say, "Nevermind, talks going well, agreement pending! Buy buy buy!"
Classic pump and dump, but they're manufacturing little peaks and valleys along the way to maximize the profits.
And the pension funds and municipal accounts are the patsies. That's you and me.

(23,738 posts)I don't buy this for a minute. Even if the negotiators are making progress, it ends up depending on what sort of pissy mood Trump is in.
I think he's making $$ on shorting the market somehow.

It's just like what had been done with the oil futures... Every time a storm was headed for the Gulf of Mexico, they went berserk and the markets would get rattled. Same for any sudden Nigerian "pipeline sabotage" (or hint at one).

(565 posts)that the Impeachment walls are finally closing in. This is a tactic he uses when bad news comes out. He knows how to use the MSM and RW fake news. He learned it from the best, Roger Ailes. I expect more bazaar statements and actions are going to happen in these winding days.
I have a gut feel that he'll resign before the votes are cast. He knows being impeached will brand him a loser forever. Narcissists can't take that.
