Officials: Jersey City shooting was 'targeted attack on the Jewish kosher deli'

JERSEY CITY — Two people armed with long rifles “targeted” a kosher deli that was at the center of a massive shootout Tuesday, opening fire as soon as they walked inside the store, authorities said Wednesday morning.
The attack, which left three civilians dead inside the store, would have likely continued if two police officers hadn’t been blocks away and responded immediately when they heard the gunshots, officials said.
The news come as Gov. Phil Murphy said he spoke Tuesday night with President Donald Trump and as the state attorney general took charge of the investigation.
Authorities had initially indicated the shootout, during which both attackers died, was not related to terrorism and may have been tied to a prior crime. The incident came after the suspects were believed to have shot and killed a police officer in a nearby cemetery just minutes before.

Man, woman reportedly ID’d as attackers in fatal gun battle at kosher market
Two people who unleashed a furious gun battle in Jersey City Tueday, killing a police officer and three people inside a kosher grocery store, have been identified as David Anderson and Francine Graham, according to a report by NBCNewYork.com that cited law enforcement sources.
Anderson was a onetime follower of the Black Hebrew Israelite movement, a theology dating to the 19th Century that asserts African Americans are God’s true chosen people, according to the NBC report.
Police found online postings connected to Anderson’s social page with anti-police and anti-Jewish writings, the report said. Investigators are looking to see if Anderson himself posted that material, the report said, citing four sources in law enforcement.
